Wieters
If I were starting a team I would select Wieters before any of the players on the list.

by spidurfan on Nov 21, 2007 12:33 PM EST reply actions

not at 1b
If he does get moved down the road to 1st base, then no. However, if he stays at catcher, which I think he will, for his prime playing years, then moves to 1st, yes I would take him here.

Need to see
Fernando Martinez and Fautino deLosSantos for testers soon.

Went Wood here
I've been a skeptic for awhile because of the Angels lack of interest in teaching contact skills, but if he can make contact at the MLB level, he's a lock for 30HR in 500ABs.  I think that's worth the Dallas McPherson gamble here.

wow
actually, lots of tough choices here.  Upside of Wood vs likely solid performance of Barton and Votto?  Upside of Cueto?

Fun  stuff.

got Wood as well ...
barely over Marrero. The only reason I did is Wood could still be a quality SS, and the Nats are purportedly moving Marrero to 1B. A really questionable decision on their part I think. I like McCutch and his huge upside here as well.

Briggy
:-)

I'd take McGee over LaRoche 100 times out of 100 :-)

Johnny Cueto
Is where I am going on this one.

with the possible exception of Votto, I'd take Barton and FMart (and maybe Adenhart too) before anyone on that list

by bleedjaxblue on Nov 21, 2007 1:15 PM EST reply actions

really?
I would take anyone on that list over FMart

Ellsbury here
He is the clear choice IMO since he already has shown a glimpse of things to come in the bigs.

by SoCal @ Minor League Ball on Nov 21, 2007 1:23 PM EST reply actions

Agreed
Prospects who hit 40 points above their minor league batting average in a cup of coffee are virtually guaranteed of big league success.

Just ask Chris Duffy or John Wehner.

Carlos Triunfel

The tools are all there; cannon throwing arm, above-average speed, good feet, strong hands, plus bat speed and a disposition that spells future star.

by Trenchtown on Nov 21, 2007 2:51 PM EST reply actions

Too early
Why put on a SS who hasn't hit a Home Run at the major league level over a Shortstop (most likely will qualify) who hit 43 dingers at the same level as Triunfel and has been consistently productive at every level?  The hatin' on Wood is just getting ridiculous, he didn't even have that bad of a year!

Wow? No respect for Headley?!
What does it take for Chase Headley to get some respect?

Apparently a 1017 OPS in the high minors in one of the strongest pitchers parks in the minor leagues isn't enough!

How bout
Martinez gets on the poll?

by Havok1517 on Nov 21, 2007 4:43 PM EST reply actions

Pearce...
someone just mentioned him, does he still qualify for prospect lists? If so, then he should be up, for sure. His numbers were ridiculous.

by beastball on Nov 21, 2007 4:47 PM EST reply actions

Johnny Cueto
Cueto really needs to be up there.  IMHO, he's twice the prospect Votto is, and they're in the same organization, yet Votto is leading here....

I voted for Wood though.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

Votto had 14% - now at 176 votes he has 25% ... hmmm, I guess Cincy fans woke up!

Votto vote stuffing
Yeah, I think Votto must have gotten like 30 votes in a row.  I noticed on another poll a few back that he got an abnormally high amount of votes compared to what he usually gets.

I've just about had it with these polls.  Votto should be disqualified for the next 2 polls as far as I'm concerned.

by BaseballBrain on Nov 21, 2007 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

Is it...
LaPorta time? Of all the newly drafted players in June he by far and away looked the best (Note: that played).

by Havok1517 on Nov 21, 2007 6:32 PM EST reply actions

Ugh
  1.  Votto's potential is nowhere near Wood's, so Wood could still be better even if Votto fulfulls his potential and Wood doesn't fill his all the way.
  2.  Votto is a 1B, Wood is in all likelihood now a SHORTSTOP. Don't underestimate the importance of position scarcity.

Tim Alderson
Would he fit in the top 100 prospects? He was solid in his minor league debut, though it was a small sample size. 5 IP with 12 k's i think it was.

by lakerfan030 on Nov 21, 2007 7:33 PM EST reply actions

nah
That's probably not enough to break into the top 100 unless his has ridiculous stuff and projectability.
Hey fish, leave those kids alone!

by The Congo Hammer on Nov 21, 2007 8:30 PM EST up reply actions

it was an encouraging debut
but 5 IP is the small sample size to end all small sample sizes.

by jpahk on Nov 21, 2007 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

I was the one who set the poll up..
and unless someone has 30 accounts and they are systematically logging on and voting one by one.. the poll shouldn't be affected.. also John would probably see hey this person has 30 accounts..

by cubsfan2883 on Nov 21, 2007 9:09 PM EST reply actions

You can just change your IP
To vote more than once.

Or use proxies.

It's really easy to do.

by doublestix on Nov 21, 2007 9:50 PM EST up reply actions

Nah
Sometimes a guy on a team blog site will notify his whole fan base that someone's up for a vote over here, and they'll all come over and vote as a misplaced show of support for one of "their" players.

This is what happened with Phil Humber last year - someone on a Mets fan blog posted a link to here, and they came rushing over to "support the shark."
