How Would These Rank Fantasy Wise (recent draftees)
these recent draftees from 07' draft class:
Wieters
Vitters
Mills
Moustakas
Laporta
how would these guys be ranked for fantasy purposes? Laporta seems to stick out in my head above the rest does anyone agree? Which has the higher cieling and the best chance to get to that cieling?
right now i am ranking them
Wieters
Moustakas
Laporta
Vitters
Mills
but i am tempted to take Laporta over both Wieters and Moustakas in a rookie draft

Laporta higher
Laporta
Vitters
Mills
Moustakas
Laporta's knock is that his defense is bad but his bat is incredible and that is all that counts in fantasy.
Fantasy Wise
Wieters is clearly the most valuble because there are the 4 Ms, (Martinez, Mauer, McCann, Martin) and then not much else.
If Mills is a DH or even a first baseman his value drops too because I don't see him slugging like the DH's of today's game.
So my list would go as follows:
Wieters- Catchers are so valueable
Moustakas- If he is a SS he is clearly 2.
Laporta- Should wind up in the OF but there is tons of depth there in Fantasy.
Vitters- 3B should be solid, i really like his swing very quiet with his lower half but i'd like him to use his body more.
Mills- probably will be at a lower spectrum position.
+1

What about the S?
haha
To me its still to be determined if Salty is a full time Catcher. Last year was a nice start, he had flashes of brilliance and some point where he was lost. He stuck out a lot, 75 times in 308 ABs, and his average was pretty low for a 'stud' hitter. With that said catchers take a beating behind the plate and rarely are consistent fantasy players and rarely stay healthy. I like Salty and he could get on this list soon but I'll play the devil's advocate and point out things I don't like.
- He will most likely be switching from 1B, C and DH. I think players, at least i did, like consistency with their role.
- He is a switch hitter.- one of my favorites, WLB, is a switch hitter but it is very hard to stay consistent and maintain streaks when you are switching sides constantly.
- Protection? He is playing in a weak lineup. Micheal Young is on a down slide and the leader in OPS was Ian Kinsler. They are going to lean on him to be the big bat and that will be tough on a young kid.
Laporta
Laporta?
He is already playing in the OF so i'd look for him only to move down the spectrum with another team rather than all the way up catcher.
I would rank them....
- Wieters
- LaPorta
- Mills
- Moustakas
- Vitters
I really think Mills gets a bad rap on this site, but I am not quite sure why. Maybe it is his inferior competition from college - forgetting the fact that he put up solid numbers his freshman year playing the top NCAA competition. But Mills is much better than most here are giving him credit for.
It depends on your perspective...
- Weiters
- Moustakas
- Vitters
- LaPorta
- Mills
