Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Good news for Mets fans...

From Rotoworld:

The Phillies announced that they've hired Chuck LaMar as their Director of Professional Scouting.

"The Bobby Abreu-for-Kevin Stocker deal finally pays off for Chucky, as this has to be the Phillies' way of saying thanks. ... There really is a lot of potential for upside here. Doing the opposite of what LaMar recommends in every instance might finally get the Phillies over the hump."

LaMar
actually, I think he has good eye for talent. He is responsible for all the talent in Tampa Bay including Crawford and Baldelli

I don't think anyone really ever had an issue with his scouting ability.  He just never knew when to take a fair deal as a GM, rather than just trying to rip the other team off.  Not everyone is willing to pay a king's ransom for a damaged (or even healthy) Victor Zambrano....

I take issue with his scouting ability
He was god awful when he ran the Braves draft in the early 90's. Just terrible.

Yeah
His vision at the beginning of the franchise was flawed and he executed it terribly.  He tried to build a winning team through veterans, overpaying and crippling the franchise for years to come.  But his scouting department and eye for prospects has always been really good.

The 2004 draft is one of the best in recent memory.  Niemann, McGee, Davis, Brignac, Sonnanstine, Fernando Perez, Ryan Royster are all legit prospects and everyone but Royster is virtually a lock if no injuries to not only make it to the big leagues, but be there for a little while (not saying star or even good in Perez and Sonny's case, just that they'll hang around for several years).

Actually, bad news
That's the one thing Chuck Lamar is good at.
