Community Projection Reviews

Community Projections

Ok, let's switch gears from how silly John's Crystal Balls can be and take a look at how YOU, the Community, did with your Community Projections.

Scott Thorman.

Community Projection: 121 games, 392 at-bats, 104 hits, .265, 21 doubles, 1 triple, 16 homers, 63 RBI, 35 walks, 80 strikeouts, 2 steals.

Reality: 120 games, 287 at-bats, 62 hits, .216, 18 doubles, 0 triples, 11 homers, 36 RBI, 14 walks, 70 strikeouts, 1 steal.

Comparison: There is a reason the Braves traded for Mark Teixeira.

Gary Matthews Jr.

Community Projection: 143 games, 560 at-bats, 155 hits, .276, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 17 homers, 72 RBI, 55 walks, 85 strikeouts, 12 steals

Reality: 140 games, 516 at-bats, 130 hits, .252, 26 doubles, 3 triples, 18 homers, 72 RBI, 55 walks, 102 strikeouts, 18 steals.

Comparison: Interesting. Off on the batting average by 20 points, but pretty close otherwise.

Rickie Weeks.

Community Projection: 145 games, 537 at-bats, 158 hits, .294, 31 doubles, 6 triples, 20 homers, 74 RBI, 55 walks, 116 strikeouts, 28 steals.

Reality: 118 games, 409 at-bats, 96 hits, .235. 21 doubles, 6 triples, 16 homers, 36 RBI, 78 walks, 116 strikeouts, 25 steals.

Comparison: I still have no question about Weeks' ability to be an outstanding player if he can ever stay healthy.

Alexis Rios.

Community Projection: 146 games, 530 at-bats, 156 hits, .294, 35 doubles, 6 triples, 23 homers, 87 RBI, 43 walks, 96 strikeouts, 17 steals.

Reality: 161 games, 643 at-bats, 191 hits, .297, 43 doubles, 7 triples, 24 homers, 84 RBI, 55 walks, 103 strikeouts, 17 steals.

Comparison: Off on the playing time, but on an at-bat basis the projection was excellent. Pro-rated for 643 at-bats, the CP was 42 doubles, 7 triples, 28 homers, 105 RBI, 52 walks, 116 strikeouts, 21 steals. Good job guys!

Weeks
Was his BB total a fluke, or does he really posess that type of discipline? With that walk and homer rate he could hit .270 and be an elite player with a OB% of close to .400 and 25 bombs.

Another question: Speed was a big part of his game, but with all of his injury history will the Brewers ever let him run? I probably would limit him to 15-20 attempts per year

Weeks.
He got sent to AAA mid-season and came back with discipline...  Weird, but true.  He's pressed ever since he came up because he was so worried about "not messing up" rather than just playing.

JOHN. Thanks for covering the Brewers in these things.

PRESSED
Since he came up to the majors. After the stint in AAA, he seemed to settle down.

Scott Thorman -- man, did he suck
What a terrible year Scott Thorman had for us. I hoped he would be halfway decent, but he wasn't even a tenth of the way decent. The only thing you could say for him is that he was slightly better than Ryan Langerhans.

Ugh.

still some hope for Thorman
he has a long history (A, AA, and AAA) of struggling with his first run at a level, than adjusting the second year and playing well.  I don't know if he got enough time/will get another shot with the Braves, but if they aren't interested in keeping him he'd be a decent low cost pickup for a small budget team with room.

Maybe...
He does have that history of doing terribly the first time around. The Braves sure gave him plenty of chances to fail, though. He would be a very low-cost pinch hitter/bench player, so I don't expect him to go anywhere next year, as I imagine he couldn't possibly have much trade value. But I also can't imagine that he'll actually be a productive major leaguer.
