Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Sorry another Fantasy Trade Thread...

Which side would you prefer?

J. Bay, J. Crede, and R. Weeks

or

G Sizemore, E. Encarnacion (3b CIN), and Jose Lopez (2b, SEA)

the Sizemore side gets younger, but the drop from Weeks to Lopez seems to be a lot.  Sizemore to me will be better than Bay and is younger and Crede is a injury risk, but can Encarnacion continue to improve?

I'm inclined to think that the Indians are going places this year - definitely playoffs and maybe best record overall.  Sizemore is a stud, and I'd rather have him than Bay.  Encarnacion will improve, and may finally turn into the 20-20 guy people projected last season.  Lopez isn't that bad, and having seen him play once live last year and a few times on TV, I'm not convinced that Weeks is really that much better.  Go with the second one.

Here's one back for you, though:

Jeff Francis and Carlos Quentin

or

Cliff Lee

No Question
Francis and Quentin package.

Quentin
Not knowing the scoring system, but I've got a man-crush on Quentin and think he will put up huge fantasy numbers.  But I'm in a points league vs. a 4x4 or 5x5 league, and I love the idea of an extra HBP per week alone.

Definitely Quentin and Francis...
Don't let your home town bias effect your decision.  That trade is a virtual no brainer.

Really?
Wow - didn't expect Quentin to get that level of support.  What about Quentin vs Coco Crisp?

Quentin
Quentin all the way.  Compare the home parks:

Chase Field
4th in Runs   1st in Homeruns   5th in Doubles

Fenway Park
13th in Runs  27th in Homeruns   1st in Doubles

Even if Crisp and Quentin both played in a completely neutral park, I'd take Quentin.  When you factor this in, I don't see how you could pass on him.

I don't get enjoyment out of reading baseball books. I'd rather watch a sci-fi movie on TV. -Joe Morgan, Emmy winning BASEBALL analyst

It's a tough call, so it means it's a fair trade..
I assume this is a keeper league?

Is Jason Bay going to be CF eligible going forward?  I believe he's settled in as a left fielder.  You have to consider who would replace Sizemore at CF and if the drop-off from Sizemore to replacement CF is more or less than the gains from Weeks over Lopez.

Second baseman are only behind catchers in their fantasy impact scarcity. With Soriano moving to the OF, I mean you have Chase Utley and a bunch of also rans.

Who's getting the best player in the deal?  I think Grady Sizemore is that player given Bay's move to LF.  However then it would be Bay and Weeks.  Encarnation/Crede with Lopez being the weak link to the trade.  So this solves nothing either.

So with all of that being said, I'd go with Bay, Weeks, and Crede.  For the sole reason you can count impact second baseman on one hand.  Bay will match Sizemore's numbers, though from LF.  I think the drop off from Weeks to Lopez would be greater than the drop off from Sizemore to FA CF.

It's a fair trade either way, depends a lot on what the rest of the involved teams look like.

How about one of my own - Verlander for either Zimmerman or Gordon?

defense don't count in fantasy
Gordon, he has a much higher ceiling I think. I'm pretty convinced that he would have matched or done better than Zimm this year. R's chose not to rush him though.

Weeks swings my vote
I'm convinced he's going to rake.

trifecta
The Sizemore/Bay trade is a wash - depends on other needs and who you like to root for.

Francis/Quentin in a landslide - Quentin will mash and Francis is close enough to Lee.

Definitely do the Verlander for Gordon deal.  I think Verlander is due for a significant dropoff.  Those arm issues scare me.

Those arm issues?
Getting fatigued as the year went on in his first full season of major league ball? He didnt have any other arm issues. He was healthy all year except for blisters that he pitched through and effectively through. They skipped his starts a couple times in August/Sept just to rest him knowing he had thrown a lot of innings and had the playoffs coming.

Grady's side, by a hair
Fair trade, and like someone else said depends on the format and the other guys on the rosters.

Grady's CF position is a great advantage if you play that way.  Otherwise, it's close and EE tips me in favor of that side of the deal.  Encarnacion's a terrific player and vastly underrated.  Huge sleeper potential.

Lopez is the wild card, but I suspect there are enough adequate 2Bs out there to plug in (Barfield, Kinsler, Durham, Giles) if he stumbles, though I think his first half was closer to his true level.
