Andy Marte Community Projection Results

Andy Marte Results:

We had 31 entries. Results:

137 games, 495 at-bats, 129 hits, .260, 29 doubles, 2 triples, 21 homers, 72 RBI, 51 walks, 111 strikeouts, 2 steals.

That looks about right to me. I will plug that into the Crystal Ball I will do for him soon.

Eh!
That Marte discussion was semi-depressing.  After Alex Escobar and Brandon Phillips I would really like a "#1" prospect we get via trade to pan out...and from the sounds of things that isnt a sure thing with Marte.  I guess its better than what we would of gor with Corey Smith, but still.

#1
To be fair, he was never a top overall prospect, just the Braves top prospect. I think a line of .260/.329/.454 for a guy in his first full year is more than respectable. Its a .783 OPS with 21 HRs which would have him as one of the better 3B in the AL. Its Eric Chavez territory starting out. You have to think that a guy who is only 23 or so that putting up 20 HRs in his first full season is a good sign.

That Marte discussion was semi-depressing.
A lot of the discussion was taken up by 2-3 posters with an extreme negative view towards Marte- which seemed almost personal-

plus his community projection only looks poor only if you're thinking of his top overall projection by BPro a few years back.

Sleeping around
It had something to do with Marte sleeping with Nate1's girl and denying it I believe...I found it rather therapeutic actually.  I can't stand Nate 1, and it appears he got his just desserts.  The guy was way over his head, had no rationale for his thoughts, and he paid for it.  I hope John banned him for life.  It sounds like he has wrecked countless other boards, and a vigilante approach would do us well here.

As far as Marte, I thought he would hit for more power than the community, but I am a fan.  I took him in my Strat League draft a few years back, so I do have a vested interest to see him do well.  Overall, I would be happy with the community numbers, especially given he is 23 and he plays quality D.  He will hit for more power as he gets older (I predict 30+ in 2009), and I doubt he will ever hit for average.  He should have a quality career though.  Thanks for everyone posting their thoughts!

Marte in SOM
I think you'll be happy with him in SOM.  Unless Hal surprises everyone, he should get up to at least a 2 in his prime.  And 3b is really pretty weak in the AL now.  I would want A-Rod and Gordon 1-2 for future values, but I could see Marte joining the tier behind them, and perhaps even being 3rd best in the AL quickly!  When you consider that Maicer Izturis posted the 7th-highest VORP among AL 3b's in 2006, it won't take much for Marte to be above average.

Let's Hope
That he is favorable towards him.  It seems to me that a lot of players get ratings more based upon rep (not as bad as Strat football) as in the case of Jeter being a 1 and ARod being a 3.
