Ian Snell opinions

Im looking for opinions on Ian Snell.  I like his strikeout total from last year of 169 but the WHIP and ERA aren't the best.  What do people expect from him this season.  I ask since Im about to propose a Roto trade for him and was just wondering.

Guess id also liek to know which youd rather have.

Carlos Quentin at $15 for 2 seasons

or

Ian Snell at $3 for 2 seasons
Kevin Kouzmanoff $5 for 1 season

Snell
To me, Snell is ready to break out big.  If you look at some of his stats, he has some good peripherals and watching his games last year, he would have a bad inning or 2, not a bad game.

I would say that has a lot to do with maturity.  This is the year I think he turns the corner the way Ben Sheets did after 2-3 average seasons.  I am not saying he puts up Sheets numbers but it is reasonable to say that he could drop his ERA even further to sub 4 (3.9) area and strikeout 200 batters this year.  I really think he is going to have a breakout year.

Cheaper
Two guys that have a chance to do well (snell and Kouz) for 8 bucks, leaving you cash for some other players.

I too like Snell.  He should be the ace this year, for PIT (yeah I know Duke is the #1, but I like snell alot).

Kouz should get his hit on, and hopefully play a decent / average third base.

Snell
Snell hasnt developed a pitch that can consistently get out lefty batters.  This isn't unusual.  Pitchers like Vicente Padilla are exactly the same way.  The dominate R, but struggle against L.  I don't see Snell taking that next step until he can at LEAST hold Lefties to an OPS below .800.  For the record, his OPS vs L was .912 with a split against L of .305/.386/.526/.912

Snell has some work to do if he's going to K 200 batters a year and be the ACE of the pirates.

Go Pirates!!!

He has a decent change
I just don't think he can locate it well...

I question
Whether Quentin would even be worth keeping at $15.  That is an awfully lot of $$ to pay for a rookie whose upside is probably .300/20/80/80/5.

I would take the Snell deal in a heartbeat.
