Book Delivery

We're getting reports now of the book arriving in readers' mail today, at least for people in the Midwest. It sometimes takes another day or two to get to the coasts. Use this thread to let us know if you've received the book today. We made a major upgrade with the printing quality this year, and are very happy with the new printing company.

And I know for a fact that many of you haven't ordered yet. What are you waiting for? Click on the link at the right to order the Baseball Prospect Book! It's the best way to support this website.

Just wondering if you know if the mail to Canada such as Winnipeg should be just as quick? Winnipeg isn't far from Minnesota where I think your stationed.

Another NJ delivery
John,
Got the book in NJ today and am very excited to get reading.  Your note on the front page was a very nice touch as well.  This is the first time I bought the book but plan on being a repeat customer.  Hope to hear you on XM again this spring

canada
Canada is much different...it takes forever to get through customs and we have to go through a special distributor who hasn't received the books yet. Canadian readers have to be patient....I'm sorry.

by John Sickels on Jan 29, 2007 1:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ok
That's ok. Just wondering why you have to go through a special distributor?

by nate050904 on Jan 29, 2007 1:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

canada
It's complicated to explain, but before we had a Canadian distributor, it would sometimes take an entire month for books to get from Kansas to Canada, even using express mail. For some reason the Canadian Postal Service enjoyed taking 10-14, sometimes 20 days to pass the books through customs.

by John Sickels on Jan 29, 2007 1:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

customs clearance
I'm a customs broker and it's silly this needs to be done on shipments between Canada and the USA.

Getting it cleared as one lot is definitely easier.  It is not necessarily customs that is the problem, sometimes the broker is too busy, or there is missing information the government wants.

Not sure it is a good option on a $20 (or so) book, but you could always use FedEx or UPS, pay the high rate and you get your book in 2 days, if it's needed that bad.

Canada
Have the books been shipped to Canada (Barry Fader)?

Can we get a confirmation when the books are mailed to the buyers?

Last year I noticed that my envelope was hand adressed, have you supplied Barry with labels this year to speed the process?

by Gerry on Jan 30, 2007 8:36 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

canadian orders
The books have been shipped to Barry, who should receive them by the end of the week.  as for the labels, that doesn't hold your back.  It's the getting it from Kansas to Canada that is the slow part..

Be patient, my young apprentice...

Received but...
Have to disagree with the previous poster...  I am not loving the new size...  smaller type means more eyestrain and headaches.

I found it hard enough to read last year's book - especially the stats in that lighter typeface - but this year it will have to be reviewed in small doses under ideal conditions...

John, love the info, but you've got to get a PDF version available out there on time, so us visually impaired readers can have a chance to enjoy it.

If it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Hi John,

I found your book in my mailbox when I checked it at 2:30.  I was pleasantly suprised, considering how slow the mail service is here in Southwest Florida.

This is the first book of yours I've ordered and it looks great.  Keep up the excellent work!

by goalieguy on Jan 29, 2007 9:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah
my envelope got owned too (i'm in LA).  the book was fine but you might want to pack 'em tougher next year.  i'm not sure how - it seems like the standard PO mock-cardboard envelope, those are usually OK.  did you drop them off at a post office that had a lot of stray dogs hanging around the back room?

by wily mo on Jan 29, 2007 9:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

my analysis
i think it's because the book was (a) fairly thick and (b) significantly smaller than the envelope which was (c) not especially tough, so there was a large empty pocket that would tend to get punctured under pressure.  maybe find an envelope that's sized a little closer to the books.

Book (in terrific shape, no complaints) arrived Monday in Queens in badly mangled envelope.

Suburban Philly
Received it today.  my initial impresson of the quality was quite high - the paper, the type face, etc - was a big improvement.

However, after just one day of flipping through it a big chunk of pages (most of the index) is coming apart at the spine.  It looks like maybe the glue did not extend all the way to the back of the book.  I suspect in a short amount of time that section of the book is going to completely come lose.

Got it!
Got the book yesterday, wonderful surpise in the mail!  The personalized signature in the front was also a nice touch and much appreciated (long time customer).

One suggestion for future editions: Could you come up with a symbol (or something easily identifiable) to flag players who have made their MLB debut?  I know a lot of us are in APBA/SOM leagues and it would really help when flipping through to quickly see who's made the show.  I know you can look at the stats and see their highest level but having a "star" or something next to the name would be MUCH easier.  Not a complaint, just a suggestion for the future!

Received it yesterday in good shape.

One suggestion for next year - could you list the page # that the player is found in the book on the team lists in the back of the book. It would make it easier for people to find the player in the book (even though they are in alpha order in the book)

Mine has about 1/2 a dozen pages where text is either severely faded or the page is completely blank.  I sent an email about this, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone else had this problem and see if a suggested solution would be posted.  The pages in question are roughly 193-203.  Thanks.
