Desmond Jennings

Someone talked about him being a Low A player to watch this year.  I looked up his stats.  32 SBs, pretty impressive

Anybody know anything about him?

He was discussed at fair length last week in a thread re: Low A under the wire players.

I would NOT get too excited about 32 SB's at any level much less low A.

I won't get married until the Red Sox win the World Series. AGAIN!!

It wasn't low-A
it was rookie ball (Appy League) short season.  Extrapolated over a full season it's about 75 SBs, and he led the league by 10 SBs after signing late, so it's not unimpressive.  It's also not necessarily indicative of what he might be in the future.

As said elsewhere, he has good tools as a NJCAA 1st team all-american wide receiver, and his power came on late in the year.  He seemed to improve a lot through the course of the short season.  He also could take a walk, although he also struck out a fair amount.  Main thing is that he's just really raw.  I'd be surprised if he's in full season ball next year - the new Rays front office seems to like moving their players at a snails pace, so I'm guessing he'll spend next year in short season Hudson Valley.  Tools-wise, he kind of reminds me of Elijah Dukes coming out of high school, although he doesn't really have the same off-field issues (had the same problem as Milledge, where he was accused of rape but the charges were dropped, and didn't make grades at JC, but other than that doesn't really have any documented issues), and he has a little more speed and a little less power potential.

Thanks
Sounds like I should keep my eye on him through this year.

All the top tier talent in my league is taken, so I have to look to the younger kids now to stock up
