Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Kotchman v Morales

Bill Stoneman is known to love his prospect, but the recent signing of Shea Hillenbrand makes little sense to me.  It seems as if Hillenbrand will be taking ABs away from both Casey Kotchman and Kendry Morales when Rivera returns from his injury.

That said, who do you see having a better 2007 and beyond, Morales and Kotchman?  Technically they both are 1B (I see Morales more as a corner OF or DH in the future).  Who do you think has a greater upside?

Morales
Morales is going to hit for more power. Hard to tell what his BA will be, but maybe .270 - .290.

I have to wonder whether Kotchman will ever stay healthy (like Nick Johnson). If he does, he could hit .300 or above, but with less power. He has been mentioned in trade rumors, and I think his future is probably somewhere other than with the Angels.

Hillenbrand is a Plan B
Hillenbrand was signed because the Angels were concerned about Dallas McPherson's health, and they'd just lost a bat when Juan Rivera got hurt.  It has nothing really to do with Casey Kotchman.

Hillenbrand might play 3B when Figgins shifts to the outfield to give a day off to one of the outfield regulars.  Otherwise he'll mainly DH.
