What's the point?

The Indians promoted Michael Aubrey, Jason Dubois, Lou Merloni, Mike Rouse and Brad Snyder but they will not be joining the team for the final 10 days of the season.  I have never heard of a team doing this before.  Why even bother promoting these guys if they are not going to get any playing time?  What's the point?

perhaps
its got something to do with clauses in their contract or the rule 5 draft and putting them on the 40 man, i have no idea i'm just speculating

Show them what they're shooting for?
Also speculating, but maybe it's just to let them sit at the Grown-Up's Table for a while, to give them a taste of what they're striving for?

you missed what he said
He said they will NOT be joining the team for the rest of the season.

Personally I think this a great player move by the Indians.  What it does is give those guys a little bonus at the end of the year.  All those guys will get paid for 10 days at big league minimum when they wouldn't have been getting anything with their AAA season over.  The Indians should be applauded for this move.

Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.

usually what they do. . .
just give them a taste of the good life. . . maybe let them fly first class instead of ride on a bus type of thing, help motivate them.

Merloni
This guy has been given "a taste of the good life" more times than I can count.  If I were him, at this point, I'd be "Ahhh f*&$ it. Quit jerking me around.  I'm staying in AAA.  The women are easier."

It's probably a $$ move
like when the M's promoted Chris Snelling to the majors, then put him on the DL and kept in Tacoma for 'rehab'.   The move wasn't about injury, they just wanted to give him a few weeks of a major league salary (for being on the 25 man) as a thank you for the work he put in rehabbing.
I'm not sure if you make ML salary if you're on the active roster in september, even though it's no longer 25 men deep, but I can imagine that's part of it.  It's a thank you for org stalwarts like Merloni who aren't prospects, but have been doing some hard work getting prepared for the call that might never come.
