Miller
He was throwing his 4 seamer at around 93 with one up to 97.  His 2 seamer was around 89-91 and his slider was around 80-84 with some good bite to it.

His slider wasn't as sharp as I have seen it previously but he used his pitches well and induced 2 groundouts and a fly out.  The fly out was a line drive off of the bat of Cabrera.  That was the first batter he faced.

The second batter was Craig Wilson who he hit with a slider that broke from the left handed batters box all the way to the right to hit Wilson in the thigh.

He worked both sides of the plate well.  He was able to get Jeter on his third pitch I believe.  Damon ended up being his hardest out as he was able to foul off a ton of Millers offerings.

Hope this kinda is what you were looking for.

Yea...
Unless you can post video & a pitch chart that's pretty good. Thanks!

miller
the kid looked pretty sharp. i like the easy delivery and mid-to-high 90's heat. the movement on that slider is something, too.

one thing i have to say, and this is not directly related to miller: damn, johnny damon is a tough out. it's not just his AB against miller, of course. but every time i see him he is fouling off pitch after pitch and then smacking one into the gap. and he's got 20 bombs this year, too. twenty! i hate him so much. this is the same guy who hit 256/324/363 for the A's in his only season with us. grr.

Damon
I remember Damon from his time in Oakland and his numbers took a hit because a number of his foul balls stayed in play in the enormous foul territory in Oakland.

by PooNani on Aug 30, 2006 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah right
nobody can teach A-Rod clutch. actually, a friend of mine thinks clutch doesn't exist. Just look at the numbers. Screw A-Rod!

you are an absolute dunce-cap.....
and a typical yankee fan. a-rod` going to end up with 40 homers and 120+ rbi`s and to hear you and the rest of your lot tell it, he`s no better than some little fat kid i grew up with named r. lamontagne who used to soil himself while playing shortstop. doesn`t soil himself now but get`s the norm peterson sweat-stains under his arm pits real bad. you people crack me up!!!!!! dumb! dumb! dumb!

Hmm
One thing I noticed watchin the video is that a lot of his pitches seemed up in the zone.  I won't analyze a player based on 17 pitches during his first major league appearance, but it's just an observation.

that's awesome!
thanks for the video hook up Uncle PooNani!

thanks
on a side note, as teh person above said; damon just works the count by consistently seeming to foul off touch pitches (i.e. fouling off that 97 mph fastball and then that slider)

If he was nervous
He hid it pretty well.  It was nice to see him throw strikes.  That slider he threw that hit Craig Wilson was somewhat impressive in that is broke too much.  I was almost afraid that first batter had a base hit on a line drive, but it hung up there long enough to go right to Magglio Ordonez.  The batters didn't really make any solid contact for the rest of the inning.

Really VtTigers said about everything that can be said.  Encouraging debut for the kid with barely any pro experience in legendary Yankee Stadium.

Awesome
Great job getting the video up.  I like the big smile as he's walking off the field, too.  Good stuff.

I thought he looked good
The delivery on his slider seems pretty natural. There's no real jerky motion going on there like you see with Liriano.

Leyland sure didn't wait long to throw the kid out there to the wolves of New York. It was nice to see him step up and perform well.

damn
I was hoping to see him tonight...And lose to the Yankees. I may go to the game tommarow. I hope to see miller in person at the game.

I'm glad to here that he looked good!!!!!!!

wow
he made Damon really fight.  Damon just kept trying to slap the ball, knowing that he couldn't really drive it the wway Millers stuff was diving away.

Then the next batter he rode the ball in on for a broken bat.
Impresive.
