BP: The Top Minor League CF'ers

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5411

An interesting list. Maybin has been having an outstanding rookie season of pro ball. The strikeouts are definitely high and the power is lacking but everything else is there in technicolor.

Upton has all the tools but he seems to lack the heart to push those tools into work.

  1. Maybin
  2. Young
  3. Upton
  4. Kemp
  5. Martinez

The thing about those young guys, we don't really know if they will stick in CF.  Kemp, I see him as a corner guy.  Justin Upton and Martinez... who knows?  They might put on 30 pounds and become heavy hitting RF/LF'ers.

Maybin and Chris Young, I absolutely agree with.

One name I'd like to throw in the mix: Jacoby Ellsbury.  He is a speedy defender with great contact hitting skills, great base-running skills, basically your stereotypical CF'er.  Compared often to Johnny Damon, but better defensively.

You Make A Good Point
SJW about the ones who probably won't stick in CF.

I also like Ellsbury a lot.  He's tore apart the pitching in every level he's been at.  The only question with him is power, and I think he will hit double digits annually in the bigs.

Ellsbury
He made it, actually.  I'm not sure if the exact ranking is proprietary, but he was among the 12 that Goldstein ranked.

KG says...
Kemp might move to a corner due to his size and FMart may move due to his below average CF defense.

Ellsbury
Im pretty sure he was 11th
Also im not a suscriber but i could see all 12 guys he listed so if you listed them all i dont think you would be in trouble

Bruce
BP lists Bruce as a corner outfielder, and he was 2nd on their list of corner OFs behind DY.

Dukes and Sweeney
Elijah Dukes and Ryan Sweeney are great CF prospects.

Dukes
has never been a full time CFer anywhere he's been.  He's made spot starts there, but never been a full time CFer in his professional career.
