Yankees sign Latin catcher

And his last name isn't Peña!

From espn.com:  "The New York Yankees paid a $2 million signing bonus to Venezuelan catcher Jesus Montero on Sunday, a busy day for the best Latin American prospects."

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2508432

Additional signings from the article:  "Boston paid $600,000 to outfielder Angel Beltre and $550,000 to slugger Moises Tejeda."

There are like 3 threads on the International FA signings already.

well then
I guess there should never be another huh who named you to the content police squad?

by goalieguy on Jul 3, 2006 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

goalieguy...
...I totally agree.  This guy is going around policing all the threads now.  If he doesn't like the content of the site, maybe he should either make his own minor league baseball site and police it, or shut the f*$% up and enjoy the site.  I don't see John coming in and backing him up.

jaffmasterj, I don't think you've added one iota of content to this site.  Maybe WE should be policing YOU.  If all you are going to do is bitch and moan, go do it somewhere else and let us enjoy John's site.

My Appologies
If you were offended by "there is already a thread about this...".  It's pointless to have 19 threads about 1 thing.  If you can't handle that then what are you contributing (and don't say you told up about montero, because that was discussed in at least 1 of the other threads)?

i have not yet seen...
a thread to which you contributed that did not begin with you bashing someone.  how about some slack?  in fact, i think if you unload the responsibilities you've taken on here, you'll probably have a great time.  it's a pretty big burden to make sure everyone's doing exactly what you think they should.

Let's keep it civil, okay?
I don't even understand why you guys make these things personal.  Jaffmasterj does not just go around "policing threads", he contributes to this site.  Attacking him because he pointed out that this is a completely redundant diary is rather silly, isn't it?  If it's a redundant diary, then he's right to point that out, so the original poster knows to take a second to check recent diary titles.  If it's not a redundant diary, then you have a valid reason to complain.  Otherwise, you're just attacking him in a knee-jerk response to being criticized.  I hope you can see that.

where?
Funny, I don't see any thread that is specifically about the Yankees signing a Latin catcher prospect.  I didn't realize that the police state that this country is turning into had already come over to blogland.  Jeez, give it a rest.  Why not use this thread to discuss the diary topic, instead of moaning and groaning about why you think this thread shouldn't exist.  It's too late, it exists.  If you aren't interested in it, don't click on it.

nothing knee-jerk here
i just read several different diaries, saw several different people hassled for what they wrote, and the same name was at the bottom of all of it.

he's not the only one that's done it, but either he had a bad couple of days and took it out on posters here, or he'd just rather point out what he views as negatives every time the opportunity arises.

i don't post a lot here, but i read a lot.  and it's aggravating to me, as an adult, to see this.  the truth is that there will always be duplicate diaries, there will always be off-topic diaries, there will always be fantasy league diaries.  what there doesn't have to be is a pissed off response to every single one.  hell, just put a link to the other diary.  it's pretty effective at showing a person that the post has been done before.

civility...it's not that hard.  or is it?

Good Response!
There's 2 (now 3) threads on the signings.  Why have 3 threads for one thing?  Get off my case pal.

No Sickels for you 1 week
What happen to you? You use to be a good poster and then one day you turned into the damn soup Nazi on us. Let people be. It is not good for the site to have you going postal on these guys. It gets everyone worked up and runs off the new guys that are trying to figure out the site.

Can you please guy back to telling me what a bad pitcher Bronson Arroyo is going to be this year. I could use another crash course in trends. :)

montero
big kid.  6-2 200 ish at age 16.  Thats plus and a minus.  The plus is that hes very strong and physical and has a power hitters body.  The minus is that people say hes pretty maxed out and its only downhill from here, physically.

Hes a catcher now, could stay there but probably will be moved to 1b after awhile.

Big time power, definately his best tool.

Look around BA and espndeportes for more detailed stuff on him
