rookies/minor leaguers -- keeper question

i play in a points-based league (everything under the sun counts except for errors), total of 16 teams with 10 keepers at season's end.  of my young players/minor leaguers on my roster, how would you rank these players?

Stephen Drew
B.J. Upton
Matt Kemp
Cole Hamels
Mike Pelfrey

i'd probably say drew, pelfrey, upton, kemp, and finally hamels.

the dodgers' outfield situation appears unresolved with a number of players vying for very few spots next season, and i'm not sure kemp will be able to win the CF job.

thanks for your thoughts.

order
Upton, Drew, Hamels, Kemp, Pelfrey

I'm assuming its a 5x5 or 6x6 league.. if Errors are counted, then Upton moves down

I would say Upton, Drew, Pelfrey, Kemp Hamels
Upton is someone who can help you in every category.  He has struggled a bit this year, but he is someone who could hit .300, steal 40-50 bases, hit 15+ HR and drive in 80.  I think of him as a cross between Carl Crawford and Jose Reyes (someone correct me if I am wrong please)

he said it was a points league
so there are no categories.

of course, without knowing how many points are assigned to each outcome, we really can't guess at the player values. like if a HR is 1 point and a SB is 10, then obviously upton is worth a lot.

basics on this points league
Batting

1B = 1 pts
2B = 2 pts
3B = 3 pts
HR = 4 pts
RBI = 1 pt
BB = 1 pt
SB = 1.5 pts
Run Scored = 1 pt

Pitching
.75 pts per out
1 pt per K
7.5 pts per W
5 pts per Quality Start
-2 pts per loss
-1 pt per BB
-1 pt per hit allowed

pelfrey love
Lot of love for Pelfrey here...

and none for Hamels.

Hamels was rushed to the majors from A ball this year, but he's filthy.

I'd personally take him long-term over Pelfrey since the only real advantage Pelfrey has is velocity.

Order
Upton, Drew, Pelfrey, Kemp, Hamels.  I like Hamels as much as Pelfrey, but he's go a huge injury question.

bj
  1. BJ Upton - the clearcut number 1 guy for me
  2. Stephen Drew - SS is a premium fantasy position and Drew could have a special bat (if he wants to)
  3. Matt Kemp - He is an excellent power-speed threat, even with shaky plate discipline
  4. Cole Hamels - I don't trust pitching prospects, but Hamels has awesome stuff
  5. Mike Pelfrey - A good pitching prospect, but a tad over-rated

It is all about incrementality
What is the next best option at the position.  Even as good a season as Soriano is having, he is actually a little less valuable this year because the difference between him and the next 3 best OFer's is not as great as was the difference between him and almost every other 2B.  At 2B - it was him, Kent, Utley and Cantu and then a huge drop off and Soriano and Utley more valuable than Cantu and Kent because the SB factor.

In the OF position, there is Carl Crawford, Jason Bay, Suzuki, Vernon Wells, Holliday, Berkman, Guerrero, Manny and then a 2nd tier of guys not that far off like Ordonez, Sizemore, Dye, Abreu, etc.

If you don't have a top 2B - you are 25 homeruns, 20 sb's, 40 rbis and so on behind.  If you have Carlos Lee instead of Soriano - you are only behind by 12 sb's.

That being said, the same holds true at the SS position - if Upton can ever be a shortstop - he is clearly the #1 but if he plays in the OF, then from a pure fantasy standpoint - Drew can take over that #1 spot.

Hamels is so close to being scary.  How many people pitch 5 innings with 12 k's and then blow up?  He is right about to turn the corner and for that reason - he is #3.  After that, take your pick between Kemp and Pelfrey.
