yanks rangers trade rumor

this is just something i've heard talked about on other boards, but they were saying gary mathews jr. to the yanks for hughes and an ok prospect
mathews is a good definsive and offensive OF who could play any OF posistion
would the yanks even consider that?

Hahahah
Who ever was talking about, such a deal is stupid! The Yankees would never trade a guy like Hughes who has "ace" potential and is arguably one of the top pitching prospects in the game for a guy like Matthews. I can see the Yanks trading Hughes for a guy like Carl Crawford but, Stein would have to be out of his f'in mind to even consider that trade. So whoever was talking about this deal should find a new profession.

How about...
Hughes for Carlos Lee?

I read that one somewhere? Was it here??

I won't get married until the Red Sox win the World Series. AGAIN!!

As a Ranger fan...
...as much as I wish that would happen, the Yankees would be absolutely crazy if they went with that trade.

hahaha
can we throw in Tabata to get superprospect Thomas Diamond?

It doesn't matter
The Yankees are NOT making the playoffs this year. They are not going to catch the Red Sox.

4 1/2 games
yes, with that insurmountable 4 1/2 game lead with three months to go, the Sox pretty much have the AL East wrapped up...

not a chance
As absurd as the rumor is, I love the "and an ok prospect," at the end. I don't think there's anything on the market they'd move Hughes for. And if they did move Hughes, it would be for Matthews and a few OK prospects. And as much as I love Carl Crawford, it would take a bit more than that for Hughes. This ain't Brad Halsey or Brandon Claussen we're talking about here. For whatever it is (or isn't) worth, they are dangling Jeff Karstens and Steven White to see if there are any bites,

that is to say...
it ain't gonna happen

"It would take more than Crawford"
I don't think so.  Carl Crawford is one of the better all-around players in the game, and is just entering his prime, starting to hit for power, and is signed long term.  He is more valuable that any prospect in the minor leagues.  Hughes may be all the rage right now, but he is still a pitching prospect in AA.

hahahaha
does the Koolade taste good?

What do you mean it'd take more than Carl Crawford to get Hughes?  Hes REAL good but man, if im the DRays it takes MORE than Hughes to get Crawford..not the other way around.

oh how i wish
Billy had pulled the trigger... Last year around the deadline the rumor was Hughes and something else for Mark Kotsay... I wish the trigger was pulled. Instead the A's have an injured CF with a contract extension at 7 mil a year.

Beane wanted....
Hughes and Duncan for Kotsay and Cashman rightfully said thanks, but no thanks.

by Tabata Time on Jul 2, 2006 6:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

guys...
...I doubt the Yanks would ever trade Hughes for Willis or Abreu.  Crawford?  Kotsay?  Mathews Jr?  Please, give it a rest.

by sabernar on Jul 2, 2006 6:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

All but one
Crawford is far more valuable than the other guys you list there, and is more valuable than Hughes.  I don't think the new Tampa Bay ownership would be foolish enough to do that trade.

Hahahahah
That's pretty funny.

one of the tendencies
on this site, is to seriously overvalue minor league prospects in relation to major league stars.  This is understandable, since it is a minor league prospect website, people tend to get very enthusiastic about minor league prospects.

Alleging that Phil Hughes, a 20 year old pitcher in AA, is more valuable than Carl Crawford, is an example of that.  He's not Ron Guidry yet, folks.

re
I agree. Seems that every top prospect is hailed as the next Cy Young or Mickey Mantle on here (especially if you are a Red Sox, Yankee or A's fan).

Carl Crwaford is 25, gets better every year, and is a star at the MLB level. Hughes is in AA. Give me the young buck that has already proven it in the Bigs than the young buck that hasn't.

Mattews for Hughes??????
If the Yanks even consider this trade I would quit being a fan.
