Tom Gorzelanny

After posting a 2.35 ERA in 16 starts at AAA, and striking out 94 in 99.2 IP, Gorzelanny started tonight against the Tigers. Looks like he did okay, but his pitch count was a bit higher than you'd like.

5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

100 pitches thrown, 57 for strikes.

I'll take it. I'm very excited about Gorzelanny, one of the few Pirates' pitching prospects who has shown an ability to strike batters out (the only other one being Ian Snell).

Gorz
is one bad ass prospect IMO.. he's always flown under the radar, completly underrated IMO.. a lefthander with some good stuff.. he's made solid adjustments at every level.. I think he'll be successful in the majors.. may not have a stellar debut like Zach Duke, but I think in the long run he could better.
