I looked at several guys at 153, who were drafted in the 5-10 slots before we picked, so I REALLY don't know who I would have taken. Our pick, Jason Bennett was probably a pretty good pick there.

While everyone talks about this draft being a college-pitching-heavy draft, I think one of the real strengths lies w/ some high school bats.

From a statistical standpoint, Sulentic reminds me a TON of Brian Giles. I would LOVE to see the Padres take him in the 2nd. Likewise, Josh Barfield has been great, and I've heard that his "little" brother could be a better hitter...

Next, there are very few college arms that don't have warts: Miller hasn't dominated the way you'd want a guy w/ his pedigree to, Lincecum is small and has an unusual delivery, Sherzer & Buck were injured, etc... So getting Kris Johnson w/ our supplemental and Tony Watson with a 3rd I feel is huge. These guys aren't without warts, but they have dominated and they scouts are in agreement that they should do well in professional ball.

Lastly, I have a particular (reasoned? who knows) affection for Juco arms. Martin Beno's BA scouting report jumped off the pages at me and his MLB video did nothing to do diminish my excitement.

So with the first 6 picks, I took 3 impact bats, 2 college arms, and 1 Juco arm...
