Rangers/Phillies Trade
According to Jamey Newberg, the Rangers just traded Fabio Castro (who they designated for assignment this week) for Daniel Haigwood of the Phillies.
Phillies will still have to keep Castro up for the rest of the year, but has showed some promise in the little time he's played this year. Haigwood looks like he could be a nice middle of the rotation starter if everything breaks well for him. So who wins?

Seems pretty unanimous.
I can't believe this happened. Phillies should be trading FOR prospects, not trading them away.
What can someone tell me about Castro?

Can anyone defend
i refuse to defend this
but, if the phillies view ja happ as having a higher upside, haigwood was pretty disposable. between gio, cole, and ja, haigwood would have nowhere in the major league rotation to fit into. that would make him bullpen fodder. but he doesn't really have the velocity needed to come in and get ks at the major league level. fabian does. if that was the role they viewed haigwood filling, then this trade is probobly a good one as it gets a player who is more suited to the role.

The trade doesn't make too much sense...

Fabio Castro
Obviously, though, Haigwood's worth more. And even if Castro is worth more for this year, making trades for this year is fairly stupid if you're the Phillies.
Oops.
