Jason Johnson has been designated for assignment and Jeremy Sowers is apparently going to take his place.
While this move may signal a subtle shift from contending to building for the future for this year's Indians, I have to think that this is a bad idea. The Indians' pitching staff hasn't exactly been great, but they've been victimized by a pretty horrid defense. Sowers is a solid young pitcher, but he doesn't strike out very many guys - putting him against major league hitters with a defense that has done a good job of sabotaging almost every other starter on the staff sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. That being said, I'm a Sowers fan and I hope for the best.
Thoughts and/or expectations?
