MOD 2: Yankees

OK, a few more days until this shindig.  At 21, most of the better college players will be gone, which is good and bad as I am not enamored with most of them.  Probably at 21 we're looking at Hank Conger or a prep pitcher, or possibly Travis Snider.
I dont really like David Huff, where are the strikeouts?
I am intrigued by Max Sapp as well as Mark Hamilton.

Fire away.

Conger
Conger and Snider are definitely good picks, though I'd rather go with Brett Anderson if he's still available. Alternately, if all three are already taken, Matt Antonelli would be a great pick, since most scouts seem to think that he could handle a move to second base.

A few middle round guys I especially like are Colton Willems, Matt Latos, Brandon Belt, Dallas Buck, Tony Watson, and Chris Coghlan.

At the back end of things, I really like high school lefty Glenn Gibson and a couple of college catchers, Jordan Newton and Matt McBride, as fourth and fifth round picks. I'd suggest going after either Newton or McBride in the fourth round and maybe Gibson in the fifth.

In general, this looks like a draft which is deeper in pitching, and thats probably where we should be concentrating after that first round pick (though I do think one of those two catchers would make for an excellent pick at a position where we lack any real prospects).

antonelli
don't really like antonelli, but if there, he'd be someone to consider...

Conger and my ratings
I feel that Conger is a good player, but that he won't stick to his position because of his large stature, so he might move to first when he gets to the bigs. Latos would be an over draft at 21 and I think Anderson is overrated for 21, not as much upside as other players available. Antonelli or Marrerro(like Marrerro more) would be good position players to select. I actually prefer Jeremy Jeffress, because I think his upside is tremendous, he has a fluid motion and good stature, not to mention he only needs to work on developing off speed pitches, and he could make a nice one two punch with Phillip Hughes. I also like the kid's fire and motivation, who they have compared to Dontrelle Willis. I also like Max Scherzer, who could be available in the real draft, not this one because nobody cares about signability issues with a Mock Draft. With him, you have a potential dominant closer(sorry I can't see him sticking at starter with his motion) to groom to replace Mariano(he will eventually retire). A live fastball, good moving slider, and nice break to a curve make for a pretty good prospect.
Right now my ratings go like this(based on I believe that these players will still be around when we pick at 21)

1.Jeremy Jeffress
2.Chris Marrerro
3.Jared Hughes
4.David Huff
5.Kasey Kikker

Later on with our supplemental and later round picks, i would advise you to look up players such as Dellin Bestances(perfect player with our supplemental) or Matt Latos or Jordan Walden. Later on in the draft, look up players such as Preston Mattingly(first base and Donnie Baseball's son) and Torre Langley(is not prototypical in size, but he makes up for it in heart and arm accuarcy and power). Maybe a college lefty such as Matt LeBlanc would be good later on in the fourth or fifth round. Also, dont forget someone such as Jeff Samardzija later on if he is available and this draft goes deep.

conger
Conger is the same listed size as Posada.  Betances I know about, I know a few people who coached against him and scouted him.  Hughes can't strike anyone out in College, don't think that bodes well for the future.  I prefer Dallas Buck for college pitchers who don't miss bats.  Same with Huff.  Jeffress I expect to go before 21, but I like him as well.  I think Jeff Manship is a solid  pick for later on.

Well
I am just commenting on what alot of people say and that he might just be unable to stick to his position, even though he has power projections through the roof. I really hope that Jeffress is not gone by the pick because I view him as a top 10 talent that just needs molding. Dallas Buck is also a very good talent but I don't know all that much about him, but what I hear is that he uses location and variety of pitches, not velocity, to strike people out. Thats something I like but he could be an overdraft at 21. At 41 with out supplemental though, he would be a good selection.

same as posada, but...
...he's still young and will possibly fill out more.

I'd pass on Conger
And take Brett Anderson or Kasey Kiker, one of which should make it to the Yankees spot. I'd go for Betances for the supplemental pick, and then go after a few more upside guys in 3 and 4 like Torre Langley and Brandon Belt

Sapp
I like the idea of getting local boy Betances with the supplemental pick.

Some other guys i like are HS C Max Sapp and HS 3b/SS Bill Rowell (NJ kid). I also still like Matt Laporta from UFlorida. Maybe not with our 21, but i would keep him in mind. He had an off year statistically, but his power potential is immense.

I would also like to grab Preston Mattingly at some point in the draft as well.

Re
Check out Brewerfan.net and their overall rankings, for some reason they have him really low, while he projects to be a fourth or fifth rounder. You can also check the archives of the Daily News because they had an article on him in yesterday's paper
