Curtis Granderson Crystal Ball

But I am going to ask it anyway.

Basically I am being offered

Granderson and Chris Capuano (2010 and (2009) respectively

for

Delmon Young and Adam Kennedy (150 AB's +6 years and a (2006 FA respectively)

Now the question I am asking is ..how will the production I get from Granderson for the next 6 years compare to the production I would get from Young for the next 6..

If Granderson is 2/3 of the player that Young is.. then I think I make out like a bandit but if Granderson is a stiff or fails then I am getting ripped off..

So Crystal Ball me Curtis Granderson here.. and compare that to either John's or your own Delmon Ball

my two cents
CF Granderson > LF Delmon x .67

Even of your league doesn't put a premium on CF, I'd say go fo it. You'll be clearly ahead for the next two years at least, and after that maybe a meteor hits Earth...

Or Young
throws another bat at another umpire.. Or Dukes and Young get into a knife fight and end each others baseball careers while listening to "Beat It"

Fantastic
I can picture it, although I would prefer "How do you solve a problem like Maria"...

Do that trade
This year Granderson is a 10 WARP3 player.  That doesn't mean a lot for fantasy, but it does mean that he's one of the most valuable commodities in baseball.  He's got untapped SB potential as well, as well as great on-base skills, power, and an ability to hit for average.  He's a guy who contributes in every category much like Grady Sizemore, except Granderson might be even better.  He's a top 3 keeper centerfielder in my book, behind Beltran and right in line with Andruw Jones in value.

Capuano is an emerging starter.  He's made major leaps in controlling his walks (down to 2.0 from 3.7 per nine last year) and his strikeouts are borderline ace material.  I think his improvement is for real and he's a potential top 10 fantasy starter.

You win big on this deal.  Delmon is going to be a great player.  But so are Granderson and Capuano.  Kennedy is a solid 2B, but nothing more.

Better than Sizemore?
I think you are way off here. Granderson is a very nice player and fun to watch, but Sizemore has the makings of a legit superstar.

Sizemore is a year and 5 months younger (with a 22 HR/ 22 SB season already under his belt) and could develop 30 HR power as he fills out. He is also a better bet for stolen bases and I like his chances to beat out Granderson in average as well.

I read somoewhere last year that Granderson's stolen bases likely wouldn't transfer to the majors. So far, that seems to be the case, with 5/10 SB between last year's callup and more than two months this season. Without 20+ steals, Granderson should not even come close to Sizemore's fantasy value...

Playing for this year?
If you are playing for this year, take the deal. That is a fair offer. Capuano is doing some very nice things this year and Granderson contributes a little bit of everything.

If this move will not likely put you over the top this year, I would hold onto Delmon. Granderson is far from a stiff, but give me the potential superstar over the two solid guys anyday. Fantasywise, Delmon's stats could dwarf Granderson's as soon as next year and while Capuano is nice, he will not make up the difference in my opinion. Solid pitching can always be found...

Capps and Granderson...
I am drunk right now and dont recall which side of the trade you get. But keep Chris and Curtis. Take the two solid point getters over the one in the bush.

Hype Delmon all people on this site want. Until he can prove it in the bigs, take the two guys who have proven they can.

Dont buy into the hype, take the sure things. I know people on this site will argue with me that Delmon is a sure thing, but these are also the people that finished last in the 2005 season cause they spent all their fantasy caproom in 2003 on Ben Grieve.

TAKE THE SURE THING!!!!

re
Curtis becomes a Bernie Williams type player IMO without the spikes in BA (Bernie hit .350 one year).

That means high OB%, solid but not spectacular HR totals, and solid defense without true CF range.

he's player a WAY WAY above average CF for the Tigers. He does not have below average range.

re
I like Granderson, and I did notice that he just went over his 1,000th inning without commiting an error, but from everything I have read baseball people question his ability to play CF because of a lack of true CF range. Baseball America is one notable example that cited these questions.

If Granderson sticks in CF and puts up consistent .300/.400/.500 lines with 20+ homers and steals, he'll go down as one of the best CFers in his generation.

I heard that coming up too, but everything I've read, seen, heard says that he's been playing elite defense out there in the cavern that is Comerica.  His Rate2 from BP is 114 from this year and was 127 last year in CF.  I know defensive stats aren't the end all be all, but when you're that far above-average according to the stats, I don't think they can be that wrong.

Granderson
I have watched a lot of Tigers games this year.  I can tell you that he is an excellent CF.

He has good range because he almost always takes the correct jump and route to the ball.  Sometimes it looks like he is moving right when the ball is hit.

Basically he has cemented his position in CF.  He is playing the best defense I have seen out there in a long time.

I don't think anyone would watch him today and wonder if he can stay in center.

I went ahead and did the dang thing..
Hope I made the right choice.  I am competitive this year with a core nuculeus of young talent.. I took over the Pirates and sold away my minor leagues (at least the guys close to the bigs) for young talent in the show.., I have wheeled and dealed and now have David Wright Utley Rollins Bay Willingham Crisp and Swisher which gives me  plenty of offensive production.. My only weakness thus far has been pitching with Cain Duke C. Lee (CLE) Harden, Bedard and Loaiza.  So I figure that getting Granderson who I like anyway + Capuano who has been solid will give my team a fighting chance at winning it all.

Sounds like the deal made sense
Plus you get two upper-tier talents for a could-be and an average 2B.
