David Pauley?
Red Sox are calling up David Pauley from AA to start for DWells on Wednesday. He doesn't appear in John's top 20 for the Bosox (or Pads).
Anyone know anything about him other than he's 2.39 in 10 starts at Portland?
He's almost 23 and seemed to have pretty solid numbers for the Pads in the low minors. He came over in the Dave Roberts trade.

Re:
Pauley has good potential, but he is not a top prospect by any means. His ceiling is probably a #3 starter. Good fastball and a great curve

#5 guy
I love those soxprospects scouting reports:
"an excellent changeup, and a top-notch curveball"

Scouting reports
They do not mean to imply that his pitches are top not major league pitches but that they are positives in his arsenal and at least major league average.
If you read about most of the posts on soxprospects.com, he projects to be a #3 at best, but most likely a 4 or 5 starter.

maybe a #3 starter in double-A
I honestly think the "ceiling as a #3 starter" is being too generous. Pauley doesn't walk many guys, but that's all he has going for him. He's just too hittable.

Not really.
He has a good sinker. Maybe he can be a nice #4.
And he only has allowed 54 hits in 60.33 inning in AA, this year. Struck out 47, too. That isn't too hittable. He's not dominant by any stretch of the imagination, but I wouldn't say he's just too hittable.
I don't see why he can't be a 6 K/9, 2.5 BB/9 guy with a pretty good sinker and decent changeup.

yes really.
They could have called up Alvarez because they put someone on the DL so the 15-day rule doesn't apply. They didn't call up Alvarez because Toronto mases lefties.
