Mets continue to deal

Jeremi Gonzalez...DFA...Good Riddance

In addition, the Mets made their second trade in as many days.  This time they sent A-Ball Pitcher Robert Manuel to the Reds for Dave Williams.  Manuel breezed through the GCL last year after signing out of Sam Houston State.  I do not think he has pitched yet this season.  Likely to be nothing more than organizational roster filler.  Dave Williams can't be any worse than Gonzalez or Jose Lima

Williams...
He's obviously just being brought in to mentor Evan Maclane at Norfolk. It'll be hard to replace the numbers Manuel put up as a 22 year old in the Gulf Coast League last year though. Wonder if he's any relation to Barry Manuel?

Are there any scouting reports
on Williams? In looking at his stats, he looks like he could be useful (based on last year's stats with P-burgh) or really crappy (based on this year's stats with C-nati).

Scouting report: Williams
Yeah.  He was throwing as low as 80 mph and also had occasional control problems.  He's had his labrum repaired in the past, and now his velocity is down this season again after a mildly successful 2005.

The Reds have turned Sean Casey and $1.5MM ($1 mil sent to PIT in the Casey-Williams deal, and now $500k sent to the Mets) into a non-drafted free agent who hasn't pitched above rookie ball (and was three years too old for the level he dominated).  Blame Dan O' Brien for not trading Casey after his 2004, but I don't think Wayne Krivsky made any great kill here, either.
