Patton Problems?

To those who were doom and gloom on Troy Patton last week, should check out his line from this weekend.  17 straight batters retired before his first walk.  A no no through 6 when he reached his pitch count limit.  His start before that was more solid than previous.

I think he may have gotten things straitened out huh?

I also think he may get a few starts a AA before the year is out.

I don't want to single you out on this post, but I think we need to stop making big deals out of single starts.  it seems any time a starter who is hot has a bad game, he's overrated, and every time a guy who is struggling has a good game he's turned it around.

This Website has grown increasingly reactionary recently.

Is Patton's start a good thing?  Yes.  I'm cheering for him, since the Stros are my NL team.  But I'll say he's turned it around once he is consistently good, not after 6 innings

Jgaztambide...
That was your best comment to date!

Your punctuation was really hitting the zone at the right speeds and your spelling was impeccable. You are a sure-fire HOF Blogger! You should run your own site you are so good.

But one bad post, and I think you should be banned from this site.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. I actually agree with your first paragraph. Just having fun with ya. Gotta make sure you know its a joke, some people on this site dont understand sarcasm.)

Allow me to make my case stronger then...
We actually agree.  Here is a kid who for the last two years, everyone was touting as a sure fire #2 or #3 starter in the bigs and some stros people were wanting him to get a shot up at the bigs very soon.  There were articles in the houston paper about the front office telling Garner not to even mention his name until he is 21.

Then he starts the year with a few rough outings and people are saying whats wrong. I was actually responding to the folks who had starting to write him off because of a rough start

To expand his numbers let's do last two starts

12 1/3 innings pitched, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 17 k's.  I would say he has probably in the right direction to figuring out whatever was not working.

Who is the better prospect
In the Astros system pitching wise Patton or Hirsch?? I dont get to see much on the stros and was just curious on opinions.

Hirsh
Right now it is Hirsh because he is closer to the bigs.

Patton
I would argue that Patton is the better prospect. Hirsh is more likely to help the team in the next year or so but Patton has much more upside.

Hirsh's results were great last year but he doesn't have a long track record of success and he surrenders a lot of fly balls and was helped out by his spacious home park last year. I don't think he's anything more than a back-of-rotation starter in the big leagues while Patton at least has a chance to be something more than that.
