Huber up to KC

According to the Kansas City Star:

The Royals have yet to make the move, officially, to place Sweeney on the disabled list, but plans are already in place to recall first baseman Justin Huber from Class AAA Omaha.

The Royals, once the move becomes official, will have eight players on the disabled list, including four on the 60-day disabled list. Current plans call for Sweeney to be placed on the 15-day list. That would enable him to return May 17.

That seems unlikely.

Huber had a .301/.427/.603 line at Omaha.

Star-divide

Looks like Huber should get an extended look this time with the Royals.

lets
hope he doesn't get the howie kendrick treatment, which appears to be one start per week against a lefty. . . what a waste

not in the Omaha lineup
...that hasn't happened for a while, maybe just a day off, but with Sweeney going back to KC it's just a matter of days before he's put on the DL.

So who plays first?  Do they bring up Huber strictly to DH?

Interesting note
from the MLB.com story, here:

http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060503&content_id=1431685& ;vkey=news_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc

This year, in 23 games for Omaha, Huber had a .301 average, seven home runs and nine RBIs. He also drew 15 walks.

Holy crap. I didn't think that was possible.

Huber
Looks like he is platooning with Matt Stairs and Doug M.  In other words, Huber will only play against lefties and will not even get a start until maybe Sunday, despite being called up yesterday.

I don't understand the logic of giving Doug M and Matt Stairs more ABs than a future middle of the order guy who is a big part of the future.

Considering
Huber's struggles last year at the MLB level, I'm sure they just want to transition him in slowly and put him in situations where he's more likely to succeed. I'm sure the Royals are not blind to the fact that he has a brighter future than either of those guys. But they've been burned rather consistently in the past with their sink-or-swim philosophy of playing prospects. I'm glad to see them take a more measured approach this time.
