Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Prince Fielder

I'm watching the Brewers/Reds game on TV, and I can't help but notice how big and thick Prince Fielder is through the chest and shoulders.

He is off to a fine start (including his HR and 2B today), and I'm very impressed with his swing.  It is the definition of "compact" through the hitting zone, and he develops excellent bat speed.

I'm impressed.

Baby got back....
Let's hope that he passes on seconds during the long flights during roadtrips....

I love Prince Fielder as a prospect, but the weight issue is always going to be a big worry with him.

Split
The dude is still agile though.  He did a split yesterday trying to strech on a throw (the one Phillips scored from second on that ESPN showed 1000+ times).  I was really impressed he didn't rip his groin off his leg.  Mine would have.

Pretty fast, too
During the Mets series he beat Beltran to the bag from the outfield grass (the play Carlos got injured on) and stole a base.  Granted, the steal was on LoDuca, but still, he's a lot faster than he looks.

Eh
Sumo wrestlers have to do full splits and lean forward as part of their training, and while Prince may be big, he's small compared to a lot of those guys...

Fielder
You'd be surprized how quick he is. For someone of his size his speed has probably been unparrelled. This guy is a monster. I saw him when the Brewers came to Shea. He has good hands and first, and like a past poster said, he stole a base. Someone on the radio compared him to the "good" mo vaughn. This guy is a much better athele than that.

Russell Maryland
The old DT who was drafted by the Cowboys years ago, the year the Rocket went to the CFL instead of going #1 overall to the Cowboys.

He was huge, but he ran like a 4.7 second 40. That always amazed me.

I hope he does well.
I was a fan of his dad's...  well until his dad decided to gamble all of their money away...

Prince is one heck of a hitter I wanted him for the Tigers the year he was drafted.  I will be pulling for him all the way.
