will Orvella eventually take over as closer?

now that he's been called back up by the D-rays, does anyone know what they plan on doing with him? you'd have to assume he's a better bet than dan miceli. anyone familiar with the rays with some insight, it is welcome. thanks! and since i've just been told to take up more space, any thoughts on upton being called up since lugo is on the DL?

I don't know about Orvella, but the Rays have made it pretty clear that Upton is not being called up anytime soon.  He's gotta work on his defense (stop me if you've heard me before).  Lugo was hurt, his backup was hurt, and still the Rays won't call him up.

DRays
I like the DRays new philosophy. They have a plan and are sticking to it. Maybe having Upton up would be better. Maybe switching positions would be better. But they made a decision and are following through. Unlike the old era incl. Lou where guys like Huff was the team MVP and wouldn't know his position or even if he was playing.

Orvella is the closer. They wanted him to finish working on mechanics and to do it in a low pressure area - AAA. He did it and is back.

so
at this rate they will get upton for three full years because his clock started a while back, lovely.

Nope
Your clock only runs the time spent on the ML roster.  Which is a grand total of 2 months (September doesn't count because of the expanded roster).

I think so
Dan Miceli is the worst closer in baseball and it's not close.  I don't think it will be very long before Chad takes over for him.

Orvella struggled this spring, but I'm not sure how much of that was due to them tinkering with his delivery.  I think he'll do just fine and when Miceli blow two or three more save (can't take more than a month), Orvella will take over.

I am quite sure...
that Johnny Damon is a worse closer than Micelli. Of course, he doesnt close. But if he did.... he would be worse. I bet Wakefield can throw a knuckler faster than Unfrozen Caveman Outfielder's heater.

yeah
but to play devils advocate:

Damons offspeed stuff would be awesome.

as Steven Wright said "if you put instant coffee in the microwave would it go back in time?". Thats how wicked Damons change-up would be.
