Bottom 10 '86 WS, Old School Nintendo Style.

In case anyone ever wondered what the bottom of the 10th inning of the '86 WS would look like when recreated on Nintendo RBI Baseball, here you go! I haven't played a game in years myself, but sadly I remember when this game was considered state of the art!

This guy deserves a tip of the hat, and I like the way he prefaced the video as well. Buckner didn't choke the lead away, Schiraldi and Stanley did. This is now a part of folklore though, so this is probably more for entertainment purposes than anything else. I know Buckner has offered to pull the trigger when they demolish Shea though, so at least he of all people can laugh at it...

Awesome link!
Thanks for posting that. Quite the blast from the past, not to mention a great recreation of Game 6. Now I think I'm going to hit the garage sales this weekend to see if I can track down a Nintendo console and a copy of RBI Baseball. And a copy of Blades of Steel while I'm at it.

ROMs
You can save yourself money and just download an emulator and ROMs...but then again, you just can recreate the fun of using the old school Nintendo controller!

Super Dodgeball
I have a copy of this rare game, but need to find an old nintendo system.  I bought the game figuring it'd be a whole lot easier finding a game consul than this sweet-ass game!

Pretty much
Super Dodge Ball was an unheralded classic, if you ask me.  Good find, as at least in my thrifting adventures, the NES is a pretty rare find.  I've only stumbled onto two, whereas I've got at least 10 Genesises (Genesii?).

Isn't there
any game force stores where you all live?  I always see NES systems in there.  Not too expensive.

I might have those....
I have a PS2 and dont use the Nintendo any more.  I may have both those games in the basement of my parents house.

Baseball Stars
Regarding old Nintendo baseball games, I was partial to "Baseball Stars".  First game that kept stats and standings over a season and allowed you to make roster moves.
Plus, you could have interesting matchups like an all-ninja team facing a team of women.

I second the vote for Baseball Starts
I just remembered the left handed batter, Oh who played for the Japanese team.  He was awesome.

I definitely loved this game and spent hours and hours playing it.

Base Wars
For some reason I have to mention this game every time I see a conversation about NES and baseball games.

Base Wars was one of my favorite games for the NES.  I still have my copy, although I'm pretty sure my console is kaput by now.

Baseball Stars..
took what accumualates to months of my life. Time well-spent. Spent enough time to build three or four teams powered up to the max with every player, and friends and I would play endlessly.

I still have a console and the game, but the cartridge battery has long since died.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix
As I'm at work right now, I don't know if you'd need a special screwdriver.  Think you do.  But the battery should be a standard CR 2032 (I think that's the number).  Haven't needed to replace one yet, but I don't anticipate it being overly complex.

little league baseball
very little known game but it was awesome...i liked rbi baseball, roger clemens baseball, baseball stars and another little known baseball game, baseball simulator...however, little league baseball took the cake

bionic bo?
was it bo jackson in tekmo bowl that sportsguy always talks about?

either way, i gotta give it to chris hoiles in mlbpa baseball for sega...maybe it was some sort of glitch because after all it was still chris hoiles but my god could he hit

however bret still holds a place as the best hitter...i ever struck out! ohhh yeeeah you know what im talking about

Bo Excellent
Bo excellent in Tecmo Bowl is nearly unstoppable.  You have to get a lot of yard and keep him healthy, but he's dominant.  He was awesome.  My friend has the game and we played it all the time, but he moved to Jacksonville and with him went Tecmo Bowl.

tecmo bowl Bo
he was definitely unstoppable. i could literally run circles around the defense with him. get to the goal line and just evade tacklers for minutes then cross the goal line when i felt like it. insane. lawrence taylor was awesome on the defensive side. i vaguely remember there being a defensive guy on the lions who was given the same treatment, but i can't remember his name. anyone remember this being the case?

Baseball Simulator 1.000
Greatest baseball game ever.  Hands down.  And "Bret" is the greatest video game athlete the world has ever seen.

Has anyone here (besides Rob and me) ever played this game?

maybe
I think so... isn't this the one where the players had supernatural abilities (i.e. pitching a 160 MPH ball of fire, pitching 3 balls at once, ect...)?

yep
thats the one

Bo & Marcus
The Raiders were unbeatable on that game. There was that one play where Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen would split out of the backfield, and one would go deep up the right sideline and the other would go deep up the left sideline. If you dropped back like 15 yards and heaved the ball they would burn the secondary every time.

by StickRat on Apr 11, 2006 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha
I always screw Marcus over and take him and run all the way back to the 1. Then let Bo go 99 yards for the touchdown. Bo is video game GOD.

Vick in Madden a few years ago was pretty good too.

NCAA Basketball
Best glitch for a sports game like that was NCAA basketball for the SNES.  When they plugged in the probabilities of hitting a shot, they only accounted for percentages.  On the Oklahoma State team, there was a backup center (may have been Big Country even) who went 2 for 3 on 3 pointers for the season.  You could just pass the ball up to that center, pull him out and drain the three 2/3 of the time, beat other teams by 100+ if you wanted to do it that way...

Ken Griffey baseball for SNES had another one like that.  Charlie Hough's ratings were like 3 for speed, 10 for control (?! I don't get it either) and 10 for endurance, so you could just pitch a complete game without ever pitching a strike and strike out all 27 batters with him.

As for NES baseball games, Tecmo Baseball was probably my favorite.  Baseball Sim 1.000 was ok too, but the trick pitches got old.  Super Dodge Ball was probably the best game for the NES ever!

RBI 3
Whoever created this game loved the 1984 Cubs.  They have guys coming off the bench who hit moon shots.  Heck Thad Bosely and Mel Hall are studs on the RBI 3 version.  They and KM Left, BD Right and LD First all hit moon shots....even againast the RBI's own super team, you know the one that has the side-arming 112 mph pitcher.
