pelfrey's first game
i've got it tivo'd up! espn at 1:10 CST, and there's a report that fernando martinez may be in the building and available to PLAY! that sounds crazy, seeing as him being only 16 and not able to play outside the dominican until next year...but it is exibitions so who knows. and the chance to see pelfrey's stuff, should be a good time.

So...
I recorded it so I'll look back on it more closely later, but from a quick view I saw he was reaching 95mph with his fastball and his delivery looked good; simple and unpainful.
It didn't look like he was locating pitches consistently, but it's only March.

Thoughts
I'll break it down later, but it looked like the Mets basically told Pelfrey to just throw fastballs for the most part. Looked like he was going 92-94 on the fastball, touching 95-96. He wasn't locating well, but he was clearly being careful against a nearly all major league lineup. My guess is that once he's warmed up, it's an easy plus pitch right now.
Curve had respectable break but looked like the type of pitch that would get hammered by lefties. Only saw a change or two out of him but scouting reports have generally been good on that.
His delivery does seem pretty smooth, but for the moment he's a 92-93 fastball guy; when he pushed it a couple of MPH higher, he was clearly overthrowing and was sacrificing command. I was reasonably impressed.

Pelfrey continued
Some notes from Pelfrey's start:
Rarely used curveball or change today; I counted 7 curveballs and five were called balls and two induced groundouts. Only one curveball thrown versus left-handed batter (Beltran) all day.
In general, he didn't throw many strikes to left-handed batters; he was usually low and/or outside. Lefties seemed to handle him when he did get it over the plate (ie, Bernie's double).
Could locate fastball at 92mph or 93mph most of the time. I recorded four pitches at 94mph and above and they were all well off the plate.
Pudge took his first pitch, a fastball, deep bu foul and then Pelfrey bounced back with two more strikes (one swinging, one looking) on a couple of 93mph fastballs. In my opinion, it was the high point of his outing.
