Victor Diaz and Jeff Francouer

Will Victor Diaz be any good in 2006? Trade rumors abound, and he's a bit of a head case, gifted hitter but also a New York Met, a team that just seems to breed underperformance.

Will he hit? If he hits, will he outhit Jeff Francouer, who's squeaky clean, but still has pretty vast holes in his swing at this point?

Jeff
Jeff can get himself out of slumps with his makeup and the guys he has around him in the clubhouse.  Diaz is a headcase and a pouter...

That said, I think Diaz can play well in New York and he can fill his role.

if he can get out of slumps
then what happened during september?

he got worse as the year went on and the scouting report on him got around the league.  i think that he was rushed to the majors, and he will struggle this year.  so, i will say that diaz has the better numbers.

i expect diaz to put up .275/.325/.460
i expect francouer to put up .270/.320/.440

now that's a gutsy prediction.

DIaz makeup
I've never heard a bad thing about the guy.  He's a bit cocky, but not in the way of being a bad clubhouse guy.  Can someone tell me where this is coming from?

That "underperformance"
is called "park effects."  Don't worry, though, they're building yet another stupid bandbox. Between CBP and Wilpon's Ebbetts rehash, the NL East is going to suck.

Dimensions
So is this just idol speculation based on the Ebbets Field thing, or do you have any written proof of what the dimensions at the new stadium will be? Everything I've ever read says just the look of the park will be based on Ebbets Field, and I seriously doubt that it'll be 296 feet down the RF line...

A band-box wouldn't fly with the fans, who actually realize that a park can be a positive in terms of pitching and attracting pitching. It's about as likely as the new facility having a corporate name...

Options...
Keep in mind folks, Diaz has options left and Nady doesn't. Nady might be winning the job outright with the Spring he's having, but they surely aren't going to risk losing him by sending him down to AAA. Diaz probably needs to play everyday, so don't be surprised to see him starting the season at Norfolk...
