Best Rule 5 Draft Prospects?

Anyone have any ideas about who the best rule 5 draft selections might be this year?  First off, please do not post any subsciber info here from sites like baseballamerica.

The following site has a list of possible rule 5 picks:
http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=273&p=2&c=597256

But I thought the community here might be able to produce a better list.  Anyone who knows their own favorite team's farm very well can probably figure out the most vulnerable guys in that system.

Star-divide

As for who's eligible to be drafted this year, it mostly comes down to anyone not on the 40 man roster, who was:

a> Drafted or signed in 2003, and over 18 (generally all college players from that year's draft), or...
b> Drafted or signed in 2002 or earlier.

So make your suggestions below.

Here's a few I think are eligible:

KC Donald Murphy 2B
KC Tyler Lumsden LHP
ATL Brandon Jones OF
NYM Jesus Flores CA
Update [2006-12-4 19:44:12 by acerimusdux]: OK - so, I've been informed in the comments I was wrong on all four. Lumsden i just misread when I looked him up, Murpy was traded last week, the other two I was wrong because of a rule change I wasn't aware of. The clock now starts with the players first minor league season, not when he signs.

Jesus Flores Is NOT Available
If the Mets front office left a 21 y/o catcher who had just posted an 822 OPS with 21 HRs in the FSL while playing good defense unprotected, they might as well blow up Citifield together with Shea and find a new line of work.

Correct...
And I'm sure the Mets will protect him if he's not taken in the major league portion of the draft...

Oh Yeah ...
neither is Michael Abreu.

ditto
for brandon jones, braves will protect him if they have to... didn't they change the rules for the rule 5 draft a couple months ago

by abravesfan on Dec 4, 2006 5:47 PM EST reply actions

yes
and we may not see much quality because of it.

Murphy is an A
He was traded to the A's for cash considerations, and he's on their 40 man, so he's protected.

Yea
Yea, none of those guys you listed are eligible for the Rule V.

Here is an extended list:

Stros
For what its worth,  Houston P Mark McLemore is on the 40, so he's not goin anywhere.

Maybe I'm Wrong
Flores is on the BTF list, but from reading through the chat thread, it appears he's thought to be too young to tempt another team.  In essence, they'd be committing to keeping a third C on their ML roster all season who would virtually never play.  Still seems risky for the Mets not to protect a kid they've touted as their catcher of the future.

I'm guessing
a team like the Royals or DRays wouldn't have too much of a problem letting a kid sit and learn on the active roster all year

Royals...
Dayton Moore came out the other day in an interview and stated that he didnt see the Royals making a selection because of lack of talent and full 40-man roster.

I would love for the Royals to just DFA Dohmann or somebody, and take a shot on Dan Smith or Nate Gold. Both have a fair amount of potential.

Exactly the opposite
Usually the teams that can stash a player are good teams who already have 24 guys who make up a complete ballclub.  Crappy teams actually need to draft guys who can play in the majors then.

Spann
Chad Spann for the red sox is eligable. Good source of power from either corner IF. BA write up on him if your a suscriber

Very surprising the Reds
aren't trying to hang onto Guevara and Moran. Guevara hasa good K ratio and their pen is still in panic plus Moran would be be a decent reserve OF. I'd much rather promote within rather then waste money on useless OF (Bubba Crosby) that will probably be DFA much like Long and Wise were last year.

Abe Alverez...
would be a decent spot starter/long RP if healthy.

Jose Garcia would be a decent reliever as I'm sure some of these guys might be.

Chick is suprisingly on this list as well.

Websters
Scout.com is reporting that Anthony Webster is available.  Seems to me that he'd make someone at least a good 4th OF.

John liked him...
...based on his AFL scouting...

Doug Deeds
Could be a decent fourth outfielder and lefty bat off the bench for a team like the Royals.

BA has a list
BA has a list of Top Rule 5 candidates for subscribers.  Many of these are relief pitchers I never heard of.
