re: Prospect Retro request: Brad Radke

Hey John,

I am not sure if you ever did a Prospect Retro on Brad Radke, who retired today....for some reason I've always liked him.  (always had him on all of my fantasy teams!)

Who is he comparable to?  What grades would he have gotten?

He's one of the rare breeds that stayed with his team his entire career, a professional and a good innings' eater.  I guess that's why I've always liked Brad, he gave off a nice, personable demeanor and not arrogant like Greg Maddux.

Was he a number true one? Or a number two?  I don't think he was a number one, but a good solid number two.

What do most people think of Mr. Gopher Ball?

Career for Radke:
148 W
139 L
2451 IP
2643 H
326 Gopher Balls
445 BB
1467 SO
4.22 ERA
1.26 WHIP
37 CG
10 SHO

There goes an old reliable....

Why do I like Radke? Playing for a small market team his whole career and quietly putting up respectable numbers is admirable, but geez, you gotta absolutely love a guy whose last pro game he went out there with nothing but guts and knew he was pitching with a torn labrum and broke shoulder socket. How incredible is that?!?

Gopher balls
Please don't call him Mr. Gopher Ball, I know he gave up a few but you're allowed to when you never walk anyone.  Mr. Control or Mr. Clutch (yes he was very clutch) might be more appropiate.

re: sorry, I guess...
I guess light joking and slight sarcasm doesn't translate well in PC writing.  I meant "gopher ball" in an affectionate way.

Believe me, I admire Radke for who he was, HR's and all. It's sad to end his career on an injury note, I always envisioned Mr. Radke to pitch for at least 20 years.

Radke guys
should check out Sam Walker's book Fantasyland, if you haven't already.  In addition to being a really fun read in general, there's some very funny stuff in there about Brad.
