Max Scherzer

Anyone know the latest on this guy? Is he going to sign? What is Boras asking for? Anyone know what the results were from Yocum's examination?

I saw this kid pitch at Missouri and I thought he had some of the best stuff I've ever seen at the college level. Big strong kid, mid 90's heat, hard sharp slider. Looked like he had recovered from arm woes in the early spring.

He'll sign eventually

If he wasn't planning on signing, he would have re-enrolled at Missouri. I just wouldn't expect a signing too soon - Boras is more than enough preoccupied with trying to get a contract for Zito. One of two things will happen - if his shoulder is still shaky, expect him to sign before spting training, so nobody gets the opportunity to see him pitch. If his shoulder is healthy, expect him to take a similar route to Townsend, Hochevar and Drew, with the expectation that he sign a week or two before the draft. If he stayed healthy, he was a top 3 pick, so if he's back, expect him to want to prove it before he signs.

Strange Situation

I like Scherzer too, at least I do when he's healthy. Personally, I suspect there is/was something medically wrong with Scherzer and that Boras is in no hurry for Max to get a physical.

He probably made an outrageous proposal to AZ to buy him some time.

This should be an interesting one.
