FirstInning.com search engine for Firefox

To Firefox users: I created a search engine for FirstInning.com, the fantastic site that has extensive sabermetric information (including balls-in-play info) on minor leaguers.

To add it to your list of search engines, go here and click "FirstInning.com," next to the icon of a bat.  That will add it to your search engine list along with Google, eBay, etc.  Then all you need to do to look up a player is switch to the FirstInning engine and type his last name in the search box.  (If you have the Context Search extension, you can also highlight his last name on a web page and right-click to look it up right away.)

I also have made these search engine plugins:

  • Basketball-Reference.com
  • ESPN Baseball Player Search
  • Rotoworld and Rototimes Baseball
  • MinorLeagueBaseball.com, MinorLeagueSplits.com, and, yes, MinorLeagueBall.com
  • These plugins make my life a little easier; hopefully they will yours as well!

    no problem
First you have to have Firefox :-)  That accomplished, when you click on the search engine, it'll ask you to confirm that you want to add it.  (In Firefox 2.0, it'll also ask you to confirm whether you want to use it right away; if you don't check that, then it won't activate until the next time you run FF.)

When you add the search engine, it'll be one of your options in the search bar.  This is located to the right of your address bar.  Right now, your search bar most likely has a "G" symbol; that stands for Google.  There's a drop-down arrow next to that symbol; you use that to change the engine.  You choose FirstInning.com (or whichever one you want to use), type in the player's last name, and either hit "return" or (in Firefox 2.0) press the funky satellite dish looking button to the right of the search bar.  That's it!

(As I said, if you have the Context Search or a similar extension, you can also highlight the last name when you see it on a webpage and right-click.)

    and boom goes the dynamite.

I wish that site was more descriptive about their prospect rankings and information.  They post no methodology to provide context for their rankings.  I thought it would be a great site but without explanation it's fairly useless.

Get me a TheBaseballCube.com search engine and I'll be eternally grateful.

In the meantime, thanks for the search plugins... very nice.

    Deleting engines
Anyone know how to delete search engines?

I love these new ones but my list is getting ridiculously long now with a lot of other stuff that I do not use.

    by far the best way...
... is to upgrade to Firefox 2.0 :-), which has this ability built-in.

If for some very odd reason you don't want to do that, you can get the Search Engine Ordering extension.

    and boom goes the dynamite.
