Dodger Promotions: Logan White

Dodgers Promote White, Llovelace

By Dodger Publicity

Posted Nov 7, 2006

The Dodgers have promoted Logan White to Assistant General Manager, Scouting and Vance Lovelace to Special Assistant to the GM. The club also named Toney Howell as Special Assistant to the GM and announced that it has promoted several members of the baseball operations staff, according to General Manager Ned Colletti.

"In my first year with the Dodgers, I've gained a great deal of respect for our entire baseball operations staff and these promotions are well deserved," said Colletti. "Adding Toney Howell to our strong staff will continue to improve the organization and streamline our overall efforts in baseball operations."

White recently completed his fifth season as the Dodgers' Director of Amateur Scouting, where he has overseen the team's June First-Year Player Draft. His drafts have regularly been ranked among the best in the National League by Baseball America.

Among the current Dodgers drafted during White's tenure are Jonathan Broxton, Chad Billingsley, Russell Martin, Matt Kemp, James Loney, Eric Stults and Delwyn Young. He also has worked in the scouting departments of the Orioles, Padres and Mariners since 1988, following a three-year minor league career with Seattle from 1984-87.

Lovelace, 43, joined the Dodger organization as a professional scout in 2001. He pitched in the Major Leagues for parts of three seasons with the Angels (1988-89) and Mariners (1990).

Howell, who joins the Dodgers from the Milwaukee Brewers' organization where he was a professional scout, has spent time with the Rangers and Cubs in their respective scouting departments.

The Dodgers also have named the following employees to new titles:

Tim Hallgren-Director, Amateur Scouting

Chris Haydock-Assistant Director, Player Development

Ellen Harrigan-Assistant Director, Baseball Administration

Luchy Guerra-Assistant Director, International Player Development

Bill McLaughlin-Manager, Scouting

Jane Capobianco-Manager, Scouting and Administrative Travel

----------

Tim Hallgren has taken over Logan White's old post.  How does this effect the draft?  Is Logan still in charge or is Hallgren?

no effect
logan white will still be in charge of the draft. Basically it just gives more power to white. instead of just overseeing amateur scouting, he will now oversee professional scouting and be colletti's right hand man in that regard.

Hmmm
"Jonathan Broxton, Chad Billingsley, Russell Martin, Matt Kemp, James Loney, Eric Stults and Delwyn Young"

One of these is not like the others.... I guess the point was to name all of them, though, and he did technically spend some time with the big club this year.

Aw F*CK
White is a GM in the making, and one of the best draft guys in baseball.

Would have loved for him to be in the Cubs orginization.
