Tired of Matsusaka!

I am so tired of hearing about this guy already!  Frankly, we don't even know for sure if he will be here.  In fact, at this time I see him as no more than another future cheap Japanese import.  Therefore, I have been doing some thinking...my vote is for the Honda.

Please, I am merely trying to add a little humor to the day in John's absense.

Would you rather have Daisuke Matsusaka, or would you rather have another horrible-looking Honda or Toyota car and why?

Toyota or Honda
Yeah, there's a reason every American car company has been trying (unsuccessfuly) to emulate these two firms.

Give me a Toyota over a gas guzzling American pig any day.

Japan!
Benny Agbayani has been tearing up the Japanese league for several years now! I'm hoping that Chiba posts him so he can be signed to a monster contract...

This is obviously a joke for the sarcasm impaired. I would never speak ill of Benny Beans...

conspiracy theory
he's been blackballed from the majors since he handed the ball to a fan before the third out

Doh!
I was at that game, and I guarantee that only an "underdog" fan favorite like Benny could've gotten away with that without being run out of town...

Bizarre
Maybe they use the Twins as a default?

all I can say
Is freaking sweet. Johan Matsuzaka Liriano lets just give the twins the next 3 WS and end it. That said it's not going to happen. Too bad it stike one for the so called Small markets.

See now you got my hopes up.

I don't know what's more offensive?
...your lack of knowledge as to how and why Honda and Toyota have kicked Detroit's rear end on so many levels or your insinuation that Yoko Ono broke up the Beatles.

Try doing a little research before making absurd comments like that.

Honda and Toyota have made more fuel efficient, better looking, and more reliable (look at resale value) cars for years while Detroit continues to make SUV's.  To refute another misnomer, most of their cars are made here in America and most of the parts that they use are from America.

The Beatles broke up the Beatles, get over it.  Their time came and they left on a high note rather than dribbling out uninspiring music like so many of their contemporaries for decades after their relevance.  I'm glad it ended when it did.  Yoko may not be the prettiest woman in the world to you, but Lennon loved her and that's good enough for me.  Calling her ugly isn't very funny.

Now can we get back to baseball please :-)

Dude
Racist?  No.  Anachronistic sure, but not racist (c'mon, Yoko was/is a beast).

And yes, japanese vehicles are kicking American behinds because the American automakers are dinosaurs who seem to lean more on "Made in America" than "Quality"

Are you still here?
I guess it's just coincidence that he picked out three "ugly" examples of Japanese(-American) culture. Racism can be benignly ignorant -- it doesn't have to be outwardly malignant.

Me, I'd take a weekly visits to a sushi bar, an evening with a Japanese race queen (google that) or a lifetime supply of Kirin or sake before I'd spend millions on Matsuzaka, but that's just me.

by Flynn Blake on Oct 12, 2006 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well
if the other three options were desirable it would de-emphasize how tired he is of hearing about Matsuzaka.  The undesirable nature of the other choices and Matsuzaka's presence in their grouping highlights how muh he doesn't want to hear even more hpe about this guy.  Though, if he thinks this is bad, wait until the guy actually gets here.
And of course I'm still here, I just have less free time now due to school and research.

Do you mean
lighten up ... the way you've done in other threads?

With your utter lack of contrition, compassion or even decency, you have zero room to lecture anyone here about behavior and decorum.

by Flynn Blake on Oct 12, 2006 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's true
I'm not sure Crimson has any room to say much of anything remotely controversial after last time.

Stick to baseball Crimson, for everyone's well-being.

bah
I always have room to say something controversial, especially if someone starts acting like a tard, calling a guy racist for calling Yoko Ono ugly.

Or just plain stupid?
I think the options are:  (1) it was racist (2) it was stupid (3) it was both

I'm leaning to option 3

by ehteam on Oct 13, 2006 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

"Just a joke. Lighten up"
That's the worst defense you can possibly give.

Cloaking racism in humor can be particularly damaging, because it's used as a way to make underlying racist sentiments seem ok.

by jhelfgott on Oct 16, 2006 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK
Just gonna step in for a sec and say that this thread probably just needs to end with obscure japanese porn references. Honestly. I mean that. Family, sports based site here, not personal flameground.

Come on
I am not being the slightest racist, and if you cannot see through your own ignorance, that's your problem.  I merely selected four Japanese items that I don't really care about, and merely asked the question...WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE.  There was absolutely NO malintent in my question, just stating that I was tired of chasing a pipe dream that might not necessarily happen.

Further, how do you imply that I am racist from asking if you'd rather spend money on a Honda, Toyota, or an overpriced, unproven ballplayer.  I guess I did get your attention, however, as you probably voted.  Also, I never implied anything about not realizing what a team-based environment and org behavioristic principles did for both Toyota and Honda.  I fully understand their impact on the current "Big Three", and what's more, I still don't care.

Thanks Crimson for actually understanding my qeustion, as clearly others missed the intent.  For those others, I truly apologize if I have offended you.  It was never my intent.

Dude
Your contrition is nice and politically correct, but don't apologize for other people taking a joke and twisting it into something it's not.
If anyone should apologize in that little exchange, it's jhelffgott.

Nope, no apology
Your post can basically be boiled down to "Hey, look at all these crappy Japanese things I know about!  Heh heh, Japanese things/people suck."

You might not personally have racist feelings about Japanese people.  I don't know you.  You should know, though, that your post was absolutely racist/xenophobic in tone.  If you don't think the message you were sending across was "Japanese products/people suck," then you need to take a refresher course in conversational language.

don't bother talking to crimson.  i actually think he's right, in this case, but he's forfeited the right to be treated cordially, in my opinion.

by wily mo on Oct 12, 2006 5:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

In all honesty...
...I really am not tired of hearing about him...I actually just wish that there was a better understanding of what he is capable of instead of all the speculation.

As a matter of fact, I would probably take him over any of the free agents out there this winter if he didn't cost so damned much $.  I really just hate to see the Skankees sign another high priced guy to add to their futile attempt to purchase another ring.

Myth of Japanese Cars
J.D. Power 2006 Vehicle Dependability Study

Top ranking brands:

  1. Lexus (Toyota), Score: 136

  4. Cadillac (GM), Score: 163
  5. Toyota, Score: 179
  6. Acura (Honda), Score: 184
  7. Honda, Score: 194
  8. Jaguar (Ford), Score: 210

I've heard that J.D. Power awards are bought more than awarded.  Is that true?

Hmmm
Do you guys like the upside of the Mercury's impact rating at a young age or the better overall comfort of the Lexus at a more advanced level?
