Don't call me Jairo!

Interesting news... Santiago Casilla. He's also aged 2 years. To me, that doesn't matter that much for pitching prospects (especially relievers), but it probably knocks him down a peg on the prospect list.

I wonder if they are going to officially change the name or if they are just going to stick with Jairo. It is a pretty cool name...

Annoying news
But still, not THAT bad considering he's still only 25. I love the name Jairo as well. I'd say he's still got a chance to be a closer/setup man somewhere.

also
at least he himself came forward.

After this much time ...
has elapsed, both in his career and since the busts came out in the last couple of years with increased document requirements to "combat terror," that's not a ringing endorsement. Do you really think he had an attack of conscience?

Ohad, while your posts aren't hyping his abilities that much, I think this is what people are talking about when they cite "excessive A's homerism" on this website. It's a discernable theme:

-- an unyielding optimism about a player or the good side of a situation or a deal

-- a presumption that Billy did it, so it must be good (doesn't really apply in this case)

-- and rarely an acknowledgment of the risks, negatives or flaws of a specific player, situation or deal.

My two cents.

What did he say that promoted homerism, He said
it's not that bad since he is still only 25.  Which is true 25 y/o setup men, can still be sucessful, and he prefaced it with might.  He never mentioned Billy Beane, and never mentioned anything like he would be Billy Wagner, or Mariano Rivera this year.

don't get it
Don't see how any of this applies here.

All i said is at least he came forward and didn't get caught. Didn't say "wow, even though he lied i have a supreme amount of respect for him. What a great guy. Coming forward all by himself? Sheesh!"

All i'm sayin is that it's better than being caught.

Don't really see where you're coming from.

Not just two years
"Garcia/Casilla has aged 2 years and 10 months; he's now 25. He'll have to be issued all new papers, which could delay his arrival at spring training. "

Basically three, crazy.  When/Why did he come forward, anyone have a link about that?  I guess he figured he'd proved himself enough he'd be wanted at any age.
At first i thought the gubmit caught him and i though that was a little rare now, i though most all of the age checks had been caught a few offseasons ago.  Is this assumption true, has anyone else been caught recently?  The last big case i can think of is Adriano Rosario/?? Pena moving up 2 years and that was, i think, in the 03-04 offseason.  Have any minor cases come up?

Soriano
Don't forget Alfonso Soriano. Lost in all the hubbub over the A-Rod trade, he aged 2 years.

re
when BA posted "age gate" #s, wasn't there someone who was nine years older than previously thought? I remember laughing out loud when I saw that one. That would be like me going back to high school (I'm 27), and playing again. It would be great!

Speculation
Do yall think Pujols will be 30 next season. I have heard that there is a pretty good chance(Not for certain) he switched identities with his brother and he is three and a half years older at least.

Once again, NO.
It's been four years; if there were any proof, it would have come out by now.

by craig3410 on Jan 27, 2006 4:38 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

how could anyone prove it
Who knows except their family? If I went to where he grew up with $10,000 I would have 10 people swear that they changed identities.

I just wanted to get a few opinions about it.

i would say his prospect grade should go down
you might say big deal, but at 26 he should already be in the big leagues instead of being a future contributor to the majors, mowing down hitters in aa and aaa

by gashousegang on Jan 27, 2006 3:39 PM EST   0 recs

guess pangs of consicous
been building up all these years and got sorta bad..

happening to climax JUST at the time of his one call from the lockup in the US constelates office in San Marte'..

imagine that..

bet that wouldn't happen again in a million years.
