Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Pinella is gone

Great move for Tampa.  They need to get a new GM too.  Hopefully this is the sign of things to come with regards to ownership stepping up.  Sternberg may have more influence than we thought.  The sooner the better for Tampa's sake.  If you had the GM post, who would you hire as a manager?

I'd love to see Carlos Tosca.  He's a great teacher and has the temperment to deal with the younger players.

Rays' fans
rejoice!  Although, the local media will rip this as another thing the Rays have screwed up, I'm a very happy person!

How will the Rays respond?
Hello everyone,

Will this fire up the Rays to play even harder the rest of the season (hopefully, not against the Indians :-) or will they still struggle like they have against the Yankees and Red Sox?

In other words, was this the best time to make this move or should they have waited until after the season was over?  Will the manager who takes over now still be the manager next year?

Should they have made this move sooner?  I wish they would have before the last Yankees series - maybe the Rays would have been more of a challenge for them and won a game or two.

Thoughts?

Lou wasn't fired
he will be bought out.  He's going to continue to manage, I think through this year, he just won't be here after October 2nd!

the Rays did very well against the Yanks
"or will they still struggle like they have against the Yankees"

The Rays won the season series vs the Yanks, winning 11 of 19 games.

Sorry - ignore the earlier post...
Hello everyone,

Sorry, I should have read the article thoroughly before posting - my bad. :-(

I thought he was leaving as of right now, not after the season was over.

Therefore, ignore my earlier post.

Instead, consider whether you think the D'Rays' attitude and play will be different now that they know Piniella will not be back next year.  Will they play better?  Worse?  The same?

Also, who do you think will be hired as the next manager of the D'Rays?  Who would you like to see hired?

Again, sorry about the earlier post.

Take care and have a great day! :-)

cant hurt
I think they have been playing better in the 2nd half because of Lou telling them they sucked basicly, and that they are playing to spite him. This is the best move the D-rays could make, next the GM has to go, other GMS critizized him for not even being in the ballpark as far as being resonable with his trade offers, he kept trying to get steals like Kazmir for Zambano

RaysBB - Yes, but they lost the last three...
Hello everyone,

RaysBB - Yes, overall the D'Rays did much better against the Yankees, including winning the season series; however, they didn't win any of the last three games they played each other (which would have helped my Indians in their playoff run) and the D'Rays were totally blown out in one of the three games.  The other two they should have probably won, losing late leads in both.

Therefore, that "old struggle" of defeating the Yankees "reared its ugly head" again at the end of their series.  That's what I was really referring to.  I appreciate your clarification, though. :-)

Take care and have a great day!

Thanks D'Rays for beating Boston, just...
don't beat the Indians. :-)

Hello everyone,

Tampa Bay has certainly been a challenge for the Yankees and the Red Sox, which has helped the Indians in their quest for a playoff spot.  I just hope they don't cause problems for us next week.  Hopefully, we'll be ready! :-)

Go Tribe! :-)

Take care and have a great day!

I'm sure you already know..
but you do remember what happened the last time that the Rays went to Jacob's Field, right?
