Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Round Three

Round three thoughts.

The draft is diverging more and more from the public lists by BA and other sources. This is to be expected as teams internal lists will differ more and more from each other. Favorite third-round picks of mine include Micah Owings, Brian Pettway, and Pedroso. If the Rangers can sign Teagarden he would be a huge bargain.

Rangers 3rd rounder
Rangers picked Teagarden and at the mock draft I picked a catcher for the Rangers in the 3rd eound too... of course Teagarden was long gone so I did not have as much to choose from, but do I get any bonus points for taking a catcher? :)

The A's
What the A's have done so far is PERFECTLY in line with Moneyball.  High School pitchers have obviously become the undervalued draft picks.  With all the hype surrounding high school position players and college pitchers, with their first handful of picks they drafted a college position player and a bunch of high school pitchers.  To me, that is pure moneyball -- exploiting a market to get top value out of a pick without having to pay through the teeth.

Obviously?
Obviously?

You got facts to back that up?  I think HS and college players are about even-steven right now, all things considered.  And that means very little when comparing two individuals, except maybe in injury evaluation.

But I think it is silly to assume that because Billy Beane does something, you can exptrapolate a) his motivation and b) the certainty that the inputs to that motivation is true.

The man gave that contract to Scott Hatteberg.  Mistakes are made.
