Second Round Thoughts

Second round is much less predictable than the first. Lots of guys (Bianchi, DeJesus, Travis Wood, Reimold) expected to go in the third or fourth got slotted here instead. Expect to see more and more of this, as the draft progresses opinions between the organizations will diverge more and more.

I have a migraine building up here but will knock it down with some medicine.

Surprises?
I admit, it even surprised me a little even it was logical: But the A's taking 2 HS pitchers is one. I think Lansford might have been helped by the sentimental thing.

Love Wall
..for LA.  Big, lanky kid with good stuff.

Try a couple of shots of bourbon, JS.  Works for me.

Rangers Pick
JOHNNY WHITTLEMAN!
Seems awfully early. Comparable pick to K.C. Herren last year maybe?
Regards, Brandon Wilson

Yeah
I agree about Whittleman.

Nolan Reimold
Isn't this a serious overdraft by the Orioles?

3rd
by at least a round, yes. they must really like him.

Seems like a lot of overdrafts...
...and quite a few guys missed entirely.  I was very happy when Bryan Morris slipped all the way to the 3rd round.  Actually, at first I was pissed off, because they listed him as "Avery Morris", but then I realized it was the same guy...

I love that pick
It almost makes up for not drafting Pelfrey.

No it doesn't, but I'm not as upset anymore.

The Boras effect
is interesting.  Hochevar slipping is directly correlated.  And the D Rays passing on Pelfrey for Townsend (uugghhhhh) is realted.

And now Teagarden gets taken in Round 3.  If I'm Mr. Teagarden or Mr. Hochevar, I'm not very pleased as my sons have missed out on $500,000 to $1,000,000 in draft bonus money.

Did anyone hear the Cubs have already announced the signing of Pawalek?  Stockstill and crew did their homework as he fell a little because of singability concerns.

Boras
Thats just it, Boras doesn't care where his guy's are drafted.  He will ask for the same amount.  He may not get it now, but his guys will hold out(Stupid).

hochevar
depo has a good working relationship with boras. also without a first rounder, dodgers are prepared to give hochever top 20 money i think.

That's nice...
...but when a guy makes a predraft request of $5 million, giving him something in the $1.5 million range isn't going to get him signed.
