Fernando Nieve

Can anyone share information on Houston's Fernando Nieve?  What type of starter should we expect (#1-5)?  His ratios in the minors have been impressive, though I know little about him other than that.

Houston recently promoted Nieve to AAA and he's expected to be called up to the parent club by September.  With Astacio receiving much of the attention in Houston, could Nieve be considered a sleeper?

Thanks in advance.

Purpura was heard to say that Houston's [pitching] future is in Corpus Christi.

He was referring to Nieve, Hirsh and McLemore. I view Nieve as a #2, but that's probably his upside.

As John mentioned in a AA transition monitor, he was impressed with Hirsh, but doesn't know if he'll be a starter or reliever.  I view him as a very, very good reliever.  I don't think that a dominating 7-8-9 trio of Lidge, Wheeler & Hirsh is that far away.

McLemore has always had good stuff.  He lacks confidence and control at times though.  If he gets the control down he's going to be very, very good.  I guess I see him similar to John Patterson.

HOU seems to view Nieve with more favor than Astacio, who I believe will be a #4 type guy.  Buccholz has recently began to come on strong as well.

2007 rotation: Oswalt, Pettitte, Nieve, Backe, Astacio

2007 Bully: Lidge, Wheeler, Hirsh, Burns (LH) + 2 others.

Nieve
Thanks for the comment, Fred.  I missed John's AQA thread where he commented on the Astros prospects.  I was able to find and read the remarks.

Chad Qualls?
Fred, do you think Qualls will play a late inning role?  He seems to have straightened out after a rough May, and is putting up numbers similar to Wheeler's.

Qualls: 35.1 IP, 28 K, 7 BB
Wheeler: 33.1 IP, 34 K, 9 BB
