Prince Fielder makes his ML debut

tonight against the Devil Rays.  Looks like it will be a short, 6-game stint as he DH's against the Rays and Blue Jays this week.  Or could it be possibly a bit longer??? :)

Brewer fans are talking of a Jenkins/Overbay trade to a contender.  Who would bite?

Wow
Weeks and Fielder making their debuts at about the same time. If the Brewers are smart they'll leave him up for the rest of the year, given his history of adjustment periods to new levels, so that he can come out firing in 2006.

And if you've looking for a home for Overbay, gove Omar a call in New York...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

no room fro Jenkins in NY
I really think if they trade OB, Jenkins will be attached to rid the Crew of the salary - so they can re-up Carlos Lee.

That being said, what would NY be able to send back the Brewers way?  Milledge and Petit are the Top 2, is Overbay worth that to them?  I think Doug Melvin wants ML-talent in return, but David Wright (as discussed earlier this season) might be too much to give up.

Wright
I absolutely love David Wright's game!  I'd trade Overbay in a heartbeat to get him.  However, I seriously have my doubts that the Mets would give him up this soon.  I guess stranger things have happened though.

Wrong
That's nice - you'd trade an average (or below) 28 year old 1B for an above average 22 year old 3B who is an All-Star in the making.  Boy, that's a no-brainer.  You should be running the Brewers!!

The idiotic Kazmir for Zambrano trade aside, what makes you think the Mets would trade any of their top prospects (let alone the best hitter on their 25 man roster) for Overbay?  You'd better trade him fast - he has one double and one RBI in June, he hasn't hit a homer since May 10th and his average has dropped from .370 to .278 since May 5th.  That's not exactly striking while the iron is hot.

Re:
hey knobhead, are you capable of understanding the english language?  i was responding to the previous comment and making a statement on how much i like david wright as a ballplayer.  not one word i wrote suggested that i thought this was a realistic trade.  if i'm not mistaken, i wrote "i seriously have my doubts" about the trade.  and i wouldn't put anything past a team retarded enough to trade one of the best lefty pitching prospects in the game for a pile of crap that couldn't hit water if he fell out of a freakin' boat!

Duquette is gone, but Minaya has had his share
That Scott Kazmir trade was so sickening that it still blows my mind.

Remember Minaya's short-term, "we're competing for the playoffs" Bartolo Colon trade where he practically gave their top three prospects to the Tribe.

That same year...
he also traded Jason Bay for Lou Collier.

WOW!!!  I forgot about those trades.  Maybe Doug should give Omar a call soon.

Cubs looking for LF'er
That being said, I find it hard to believe the Brewers would trade Jenkins within the division.

Jenkins
Why the hell wouldn't they trade Jenkins to a division opponent?  I'd love to see his .230 average and pathetic run production in the Cubs lineup.

Jenkins is a fine player
However, he has an ugly contract.  If the Cubs want to pay him $7 million a year, let them do it.

Ha, hadn't paid close attention to his numbers
Jenkins has been a Cub killer for quite a while, so my perspective (from watching the Cubs-Brewers games) is a little skewed.

Re:
The Cubs could probably get Jenkins for a couple of fungo bats and a dozen baseballs if they really want him.

you beat me to it
as I was going to write I wouldn't trade Jenkins for Dubois straight up.  You can keep Overbay too.  Good player, but I'll keep D. Lee.

The Mets will NEVER trade Wright for Overbay.  NEVER!

Overbay Rumors
I've heard rumors that the Red Sox might be interested in Overbay.  Papelbon and Shoppach would get it done for me.  Hopefully nobody watches any film of Overbay against lefthanders, that would kill any deal!

good one
I guess you are less than impressed with a split of 208/255/354?  :-)

That line makes Burnitz look like Babe Ruth.

I don't think they'll do it
The Sox don't want to sell the farm, especially not for a small upgrade. Millar hasn't produced, but he's better than this. Olrud can be the bandaid for now. And Petagine is ripping the cover off of the ball in Pawtucket. I don't think they'd give up their top pitching prospect and their best prospect in AAA.

Sox 1B
I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see the Sox try to deal for JT Snow in the next month.  Great glove, good OBP, good history in the playoffs, and no contract past the end of the year.  He'd make a perfect platoon fit with Millar for one half a season.

Saw an article
will try to find a link later but saw an article that said Milwaukie is not interested in trading Overbay during the season.  The just of the article was that Brewer management examined past mid-season trades and think that teams don't receive fair compensation for in-season trades of position players who are under contract (like Overbay is).  This may very well just be positioning talk, but if they somewhat stick to their guns, it looks like it would at least take some pretty high upside guys to get their attention.

Still see Boston trying to get in on the action, though less so now that Millar is sort of hitting. Or even the Yankees trying to get Santos, Davis or even Ohka now with Overbay (and Jenkins as a tag on) for the stretch run.  What the Yankees could give back other than cash and spare parts is not much.  But cash gets a lot of owner's attention.

why did fielder not play tonight?

Ned Yost was going by the book
Tampa Bay had southpaw Casey Fossum on the mound.  Struck out ten in a losing effort.
