Temp MOD: Brewers

Picks:

1st Round (#5)
no 2nd round - (to Oakland for Damian Miller)
3rd - 5th Round

At #5, these are the names that have been thrown around in the last week or so:

C. Maybin, R. Braun (assuming Zim and Gordon are gone) and J. Clement.

It looks as if the college pitchers requests might scare away the Brewers brass.  But should it?

In my opinion, pitching is where the Brewers might want to focus.  Seems like Pelfrey and Hochevar are the consensus top two.

The Brewers will be competitive next year, and should they draft for the next three-four years or do they go the HS route and take Maybin if available?  Big questions...Thoughts?

Maybin
Unless Upton or Gordon slip (which they won't)Maybin has to be the pick.

Maybin
I agree if the Brewers HAVE to go offense, that Maybin is probably the way to go.  His five-tool potnetial has been legendary (scouts are saying VLAD???)

I just wonder where the pitching is going to come from in the future.  They have options with Capellan, Hendrickson, Parra, Eveland and Sarfate - but how many of those guys will pan out?  Capellan and Hendrickson already make me nervous - with Ben's call-up last year and Capellan's hot and cold year this year.

After Sheets, Davis and Capuano - we could use another proven pitcher.  Maybe Hochevar or Pelfrey fit that bill.

Pitching
Should we really trust another top pitching prospect to the Brewers?

Other than Sheets, what young arm has made it thru the Brewers' minor league system unscathed? Sheets, Davis (scrap heap), Capuano (Sexson Trade), Santos (scrap heap) and Orbermueller (scarp heap) form the rotation. As a matter of fact; does the pen have anyone that the Brewers' originally drafted/signed? If not, Sheets is the only home grown pitcher on the active roster.

Melvin has had some great success in the after thought market with guys like Kolb, Pods, Davis etc. Let him trade the vastly overrated Jenkins for a serviceable Odalis Perez type. But, we don't need another Neugy, Gold, Jones or Rogers.

agreed
we don't need another Neugy, Gold, Jones or Rogers - who all coincindentally were all HS pitchers - so that's why a COLLEGE pitcher (the last one we drafted was Sheets) MIGHT be the way to go.

I say if Maybin is there we think about him, and if not, decide between Clement and one of the Boras P's.

Tulowitzki has no use in our system with Hardy, Weeks, Iribarren, and Escobar.

From the other boards
It looks like the top 4 will be

Upton
Gordon
Maybin
Zimmerman

So the Brewers are probably choosing between one of the Boras pitchers or a bat like Tulowitzki or Clement (unless you like one of the other HS outfielders).
