Brad Wilkerson

I heard at the end of the season the Giants were looking to target Brad Wilkerson as a 1B/OF sollution but I havn't heard anything since. If they are determined to not give the job over to Niekro Wilkerson seems like an ideal fit because he plays both positions pretty well and he has a high on base percentage from the left side. Its also a good gamble to hope he finds his power after the trade.

Does anyone have any news on whether the Giants are still pursuing him?
Also, who do you think the Giants would have to give up to get him?

Thanks!

last rumor i heard
and it came from gammons was if the cubs couldn`t get pierre they would target wilkerson. i think this would be a good fit for cubbies. if he can cut his k`s down somewhat, he has a good blend of obp and power to hit almost anywhere in a line-up and would benefit from lee and ramirez hitting behind him.

Looks like he's the new apple of the Cubs' collective eye. I suspect that a trade will be announced shortly on this one, especially because it looks like he's a prime candidate to become a new "Dusty's boy".

Niekro?
What did u see in the Lance Niekro diary that still makes you think he deserves the job?

OPS vs RH <.600
OPS post all-star break <.600
BA post all-star break <.200
never posted a minor league OBP >= .340

Also, Niekro was, according to BA, only the 21st best prospect in the SF org last year so his tools can't be too great either. I'm just not understanding the fascination.

Niekro
I like that when he does make contact, he hits the ball really...really far and that he's from a baseball family and that he's actually a home grown Giant, who's not a pitcher. Also I have a gut feeling that if he's handed the spot he'll bust out. Anyway who says I need a reason?

But I also like the idea of Wilkerson manning the bag and playing the occasional outfield, atleast over the next logical option of Overbay.
