Fantasy Trade Help

I am in a fantasy league, that keeps all players and got offered a trade:

I would get: Jeff Weaver, Mark Pawelek, Colby Rasmus for Jim Thome and Jeff Allison.

Set aside from the trade, I am very curious on where Weaver could end up this winter, because the Dodgers say it is unlikely for them to resign him. Another factor would be the aging Jim Thome. He has been declining, obviously, but SHOULD regain something in Chicago. With this being a keeper league, Im thinking his value is limited, compared to what I would be getting back. However, I really need some info from outside parties...

Thanks in advance.

trade
I don't think Allison will ever be anything. Pawelek and Rasmus are promising but likely 3+ years from the majors. So yes, I think you should be concerned where Weaver will sign. If he goes to an unfavorable park his fantasy value may tank. We've already seen from his Yankees days that adversity isn't something he adapts to very well.

That said, your roster composition matters as well. Is Thome surplus for you anyway?

Not a fair question
You need to share what you are giving up to truly evaluate the trade, what your line-up is, (ie 10 pitchers, 15 offensive, etc), how many front-line pitchers you and whether you will have access to a pitcher of Weaver's ability in a draft scenario.

In addition - with Konerko resigning - there is a pretty good chance, depending on league rules, that Thome will only be eligible at a UT position as he will not play enough games at 1B to maintain eligibility.

For example - in my league - we play 5 OF's, 2 Catchers, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI and 2 UT players.  With Hafner on my team - I would be hard pressed to spend another roster spot on guy like Thome because having more than 1 DH is probably not wise in case you have injury issues.

All that said - it looks like someone is trying to dump some marginally valuable current players (Thome and Weaver) and 2 possible prospects so if you are giving up young good players even if it is a 5 for 2 trade - it probably does not help you.

RE:
My team stands at this: (we start C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF, CF, Util, Util, 5 SP, 5 RP

C - LoDuca
1b - Sexson, Wilkerson, Craig Wilson, Thome
2B - Polanco, Figgins
3B - Aramis, Lowell
SS - Mike Young,
LF - Carl Crawford
CF - Edmonds, C. Patterson
RF - Ichiro
SP - Carpenter, Lowe, Maroth, J. Westbrook, Jerome Williams, Freddy Garcia, Jeff Francis, Silva, Lilly, Washburn, Hampton, Rodrigo Lopez
RP - Chad Cordero, Guardado, Hawkins, JC Romero, David Weathers,

Thome is expendable, but I do have a lot of SP as is...so im not sure I absolutely need one.

I go in different directions
Adding Weaver may help you but how much?  I think if I am getting rid of Thome - I am looking to add a young catcher or get another OF or Shortstop.  Unless Patterson gets traded - he is going to play about 100 games at most in my estimation.  Edmonds is due to run through the CF fence so I believe that is something you want to look for.  With your other areas of need - I think Thome should be used to address those instaed of adding another SP.  Just my thoughts.

Weaver -Thome
Weaver is marked as a career filler type player. Stats will not hurt but won't win for you.

Thome still has not YET been proven to be anything other than an exceptional power player. Stats can help win. Last year was injury-filled so gets a pass.

Suppose be fully healthy now, and will play most games at dh (although hopefully will get in enough at 1st to still qualify).

General rule to go by is that most offers are bad. That's why they're made. Want something, but first see if can get it for nothing.

This one is no exception.
