Mike Pelfrey

Hey Met Fans,

I'm here on the West Coast and so dont hear much about if he will sign.  With Omar Minaya so busy this offseason, have you guys heard anything about him signing this guy. I think Pelfrey is a potential frontline starter and they need to get him signed.  So has anyone heard anything about his signing status?  And, will he go to high A to start off?  What is a reasonable timeline for Pelfrey's road to the majors?

And finally, another thing.  Same questions about Luke Hochevar.  What is happening with him?  Justin Upton is a draft and follow right?

Thanks guys.

Pelfrey and Upton will sign before spring training, and be ready to go. Hochevar, unless he seriously lowers his demands goes back into the draft. I think the Dodgers think higher of White and his scouting/drafting abitity than 1 pitcher.

They should sign him
They should sign ASAP. After Pedro, they don't have any decent starter and he could become a # 2 type for 2007. Pedro is getting old very fast, and they has traded Kazmir and Petit, so all this money thrown at Delgado and wagner could be wasted if they don't move. They have to get younger with guys like Reyes, Wright and very soon Milledge in RF.

Roster Considerations...
Signing him before the Rule 5 draft (Dec. 8) makes little sense, since he'll be getting a Major League deal and take up a roster spot right away. He's also not going to pitch for anyone between now and Spring Training. In the past I would have been more pessimistic because he's represented by Boras, but obviously his relationship with the Mets is pretty good right now...

I would be shocked if he isn't in St. Lucie in February and beyond, and hopefully not for too long. I'm anxious to see him live as well...

very good point
from all of the scounting reports, he sounds fantastic.

I was going to liken his write up to a certain young Cubs pitcher, but will shut my mouth!
