The Pirates woes continue

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns-ap-bbn-pirates-bullington,1,4888065.story?coll=sns-ap-sport s-headlines

Drafting this guy before Upton doesn't look so hot--again.  I'm not fond of reading about pitchers with labrum problems.  That is certainly no TJ sugery.  I will be surprised if he ever makes an impact at the big league level, maybe if at all.

sad
It is sad in that Bullington seemed to just be putting things togeter at AAA for the Pirates and I had him as a "sleeper" in my Strat league to acquire.

He was promoted as being a fire-baller and according to his reports from Ball State he was an 88-92 mph pitcher that occasionally hit 95-96. The reports were saying the frequently was in the 95-96 range so the drop in velocity became very alarming to people.

Maybe
Wasn't he also a highly touted OFer? Maybe he can make the switch back. I may be thinking of another Pirates prospect instead, I'm too lazy to doublecheck.

Bullington
This injury is too bad for the Pirates, but in the grand scheme it's not a huge deal. The real problems were drafting Bullington in the first place, along with his later loss of velocity. He's really just a generic pitching prospect at this point, and the Pirates have a number of better ones who might have stood in line behind Bullington because of his draft status. So if there's a silver lining here, it's that the Bucs might be able to use this opportunity to sort out Snell, Gorzelanny, Burnett etc. before Bullington returns, particularly if they can get rid of Redman and possibly Wells this offseason. Bullington might not get to the big leagues again until September or so.
