This is a Minor League Blog, but I wanted to say

Goodbye to a great annnounceer, who started in the Minors, and was one of the best announcers I've ever heard.  Rest In Paace Bill King, Voice of the Oakland A's, Golden State Warriorsm and Oakland Raiders, although only recently with the A's.

Bradley Chiefs
did not know that he spent some early time in Peoria IL. Def thought of him whenever I listened to or watched A's games growing up. He is an icon like the article said.
No age was given, I presume he was about early 80's based on his broadcasting during WWII. Anybody know for sure?

one of the greats
probably more well known for his work in basketball and football, but also as good as it got in baseball with his charm and exciteable style.  it's amazing how a broadcaster's voice can mean so much because it is linked to so many of our favorite memories.  r.i.p.

Holy Toledo!
I was about 12 years old when Bill King called the end of the "Heidi Game" between the Raiders and the Jets on the radio.  To this day, that is probably the most exciting moment I've ever heard in sports broadcasting.

Mine are linked
to the Warriors amazing run through the playoffs in '75.  I remember listening to an interview with Johnny Most when I was living in Boston, a journalist said he thought Most was the NBA's greatest broadcaster, and Johnny replied that he must never had heard Bill King do a game.
